Adriana Vargas (HOLA Excellence in Media Award) is one of the most renowned newscasters in Colombian television and an outstanding reporter, with more than 14 years of experience. At an early age, while still studying Social Communications and Journalism at Universidad Javieriana de Bogotá (Colombia), she began her career as a journalist and presenter of news shorts for regional channels in Colombia.
At Productora RTVC, she first hosted and reported cultural and regional news, alternating professional tasks with her college studies. In 1998, she joined Caracol TV as host of the investigative program “Séptimo Día”. Soon after, she began co-anchoring the program, along with Manuel Teodoro. During that period, she did several exposés and hidden-camera reports, conducting tough interviews of those involved in the exposés. The TV program earned several journalism awards in Colombia and held a special place in the field of investigative journalism in that country.
In 2000, she joined RCN Television, one of the highest-rated television stations in Colombia. There, she held several positions, initially as weekend newscaster and reporter. Later, she was international editor and anchor in other time slots, until in 2001 she assumed the responsibility of news anchor for the program “La Noche”. For almost three years, she was an interviewer on national and international affairs, and an evening news anchor. After almost five years, she took a break from TV and worked as on-air talent for Caracol Radio, owned by the Spanish group Prisa. She was a member of Darío Arizmendi's staff and hosted the noon newscasts on radio. After her radio experience, the management of RCN Television, her former employer, invited her to return to the station, and in 2006 she went back to anchoring the noon newscasts and doubled up as live news reporter. In 2009, she joined the international edition of RCN Television - NTN24, where she anchored the day's primetime show with several broadcasts.At the same time, she was on-air talent for RCN Radio, led by writer and journalist Juan Gossain.
In 2015, she was honored with an Emmy in the category of best on-air news talent by the New York chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). In 2014, she was also nominated as best on-air news talent by NATAS.In 2013, she received an Emmy Award for her journalistic work and news coverage of the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Mexico. In 2006, she received the Orquídea Award for best newscaster/Journalist, presented in Miami by the Colombian community. She has been nominated twice by the public to the TV and Novelas Awards as Best Newscaster in Colombia. She has also been nominated by movie and TV critics to the India Catalina Awards as Best Newscaster (2004-2006).
The 2015 HOLA Awards will be on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Battery Gardens, in Battery Park at the southernmost tip of Manhattan, in New York City.
