HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface. To see what other HOLA members are doing currently, click here.

2015 HOLA Awards recipient Juan Villarreal, shown at right, received a gold medal and a certificate from Premios Pablo Podestá for his 50 years of affiliation with the Congreso Nacional Argentino. The ceremony took place in the Salón Azul of the Congreso de la Nación in Buenos Aires, Argentina. For more information, click here (note that the site is in Spanish).

The Society of the Educational Arts/Sociedad de las Artes Educativas (SEA), through its founder and producer Manuel A. Morán, is presenting its annual Borimix festival. Usually a festival of Puerto Rican arts and culture taking place during the month of November (Puerto Rican Heritage Month), this year will highlight the special relationship between Puerto Rico and Cuba ("two wings of the same dove", as written by poet Lola Rodríguez de Tió). In addition to the performance offerings, the festival honors people and institutions with the Borimix Awards. Receiving awards this year will be the HOLA, also known as the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (to be accepted by Executive Director Manny Alfaro) and Manolo García Oliva, for his work in promoting Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Latino/Hispanic arts and culture. Other Borimix Award recipients this year include actor Luis Guzmán and Tony Award-winning musician, composer and orchestrator Alex Lacamoire. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. Patrick Michael Valley is acting in the play In Sheep's Clothing. Written and directed by Tony Vozzo, it will be presented in December at the Producers' Club Theaters, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan.

Mónica Delgado will be performing in October with the Colombian folkloric dance company Pajarillo Pinta'o (under the direction of Daniel Fetecua) at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, located in Manhattan's TriBeCa neighborhood. For more information, click here.
