Lin-Manuel Miranda's HAMILTON Earns Record 16 Tony Nominations; Danny Burstein, Sergio Trujillo Also Receive Tony Nods

Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical Hamilton earned a place in the record books with a sweet 16 nominations for this year's Tony Awards, the most ever of any Broadway production. It also broke a record by having a total of seven of its performers nominated for the Tony in the acting categories. The musical was inspired by the biography Alexander Hamilton (written by Ron Chernow). The list of nominations for Hamilton are listed below.

In addition, former HOLA Awards honoree Danny Burstein (shown at left) picked up his sixth Tony nomination for his work as Teyve in Fiddler on the Roof. Sergio Trujillo (shown at right) garnered a Tony nomination for his choreography of On Your Feet!: The Story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan (sadly, the show's sole nomination).

This year's Antoinette Perry Awards (also known as the Tony Awards), the 70th annual ceremony is capping off an historically diverse Broadway season which offered many stories by women and people of color. It showed in the list of this year's nominees, which also included Danai Gurira, former HOLA Awards honoree George C. Wolfe, Lupita Nyong'o, Sophie Okonedo, Cynthia Erivo, Danielle Brooks, Saycon Sengbloh, Pascale Armand, Brandon Victor Dixon, Adrienne Warren, Clint Ramos, Liesl Tommy, Savion Glover, and Daryl Waters.

The 70th Annual Tony Awards will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 to recognize achievement in Broadway productions during the 2015–16 season. The ceremony will return to the Beacon Theatre in New York City after three years at Radio City Music Hall and broadcast live by CBS. James Corden will serve as host.
