HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip". In this sense, we use it to highlight HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Pablo García Gámez, shown at right, was featured in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog (written and edited by Héctor Luis Rivera) because of him appearing on a panel of playwrights talking about writing comedy. Titled "¿Por qué escribimos comedia?", it will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Broadway Blackbox Theater (in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood) as part of the first annual Festival de Comedias TEBA to be presented in April by the Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos and dedicated to the actress, writer, director, journalist and producer Cecill Villar. David Ponce, shown at left, is nominated for a Premio Teatro (presented by Lino Ferrer Productions) for Leading Theater Actor for his work in the ArtSpoken Performing Arts Center production of Virgilio Piñera's Dos viejos pánicos (directed by Juan Roca and co-starring Vivian Morales). The play was also nominated for Leading Theater Actress, Director and Production. The awards, in its second year, highlight outstanding work in theater in Miami, Florida. The awards ceremony will be on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Teatro de Bellas Artes in Miami. Manny Alfaro booked a role in the feature film Bushwick (written by Nick Damic and Graham Reznick and directed by Jonathan Millott and Cary Murnion).

Anthony Ruiz and Olga Merediz are co-starring in the feature film Custody (written and directed by James Lapine), which stars Viola Davis, Ellen Burstyn, Hayden Pannettiere, Dan Fogler, Tony Shalhoub, recent HOLA Awards honoree Selenis Leyva and Catalina Sandino Moreno. The film is an official entry at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York and will screen in April. In addition to that, Ruiz and Merediz can be both seen in an Optimum commercial starring former HOLA Awards honoree John Leguizamo.
