HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. 2015 HOLA Awards recipient Sebastian Stimman, shown at right, will be playing Romeo in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet: In Concert. A concert version of the play featuring ballet music by Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev, it will be produced by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), adapted and directed by Edward Berkeley and conducted by BSO musical director Marin Alsop. The performances will take place in October at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, Maryland, and the Music Center of Strathmore in Bethesda, Marlyland. For more information, click here.

Francisco Fuertes is co-starring in and co-produced the short film Tú. Yo. Baño. Sexo. Ahora. (You. Me. Bathroom. Sex. Now.) Written and directed by Francisco Lupini Basagoiti, the film has been hitting the film festival hard, winning several awards along the way. Its next stop will be in August at the Reel Affirmations Film Festival, where it will screen at the Tivoli Theatre in Washington, District of Columbia. For more information, click here or here.


Luis Salgado, shown at left, was profiled in Broadway World Mexico, where he talked of his life and career as an actor-singer-dancer-choreographer-director-producer, and of his recent directing project (the Puerto Rico premiere of David Mamet's Speed-The-Plow, known as Jala-la-pala in Spanish), and his upcoming role in the upcoming musical On Your Feet!: The Story of Gloria & Emilio Estefan, written by 2015 HOLA Awards honoree Alexander Dinelaris with music by Gloria and Emilio Estefan. Carlo Lorenzo García's comedy webseries "Under Covers", which he produces, co-writes, and in which he stars as Detective Jimmy Cortez, is now an official selection for the San José International Short Film Festival (scheduled to take place in August in San José, California), and the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards (in Los Angeles, California). Maite Uzal will be performing in American Gumbo. A showcase, presented by Rebel Theater Company, it is produced by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj and Adam Mace and will perform in August at Ripley-Grier Studios, located in the fashion district of midtown Manhattan. For more information, click here.
