HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface. To see what other HOLA members are doing currently, click here.

Flor Bromley, shown at right, has been quite busy as of late. She can be seen playing the title roles in two plays for children: the Teatro SEA production of La Hora del Cuento con Pura Belpré (adapted and directed by Manuel Morán and based on the stories she told schoolchildren throughout her career), where she plays Belpré, the first Puerto Rican librarian in New York City; the Making Books Sing production of Frida (book by Barbara Zinn Kreiger, music by Brooke Boertzel), a children's musical based on the life of famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Both productions are touring NYC schools and are available for private functions. For more information, click here and here. In addition, she booked a voiceover and an on-camera appearance for Yahoo! en Español.

2013 HOLA Awards recipient Mariana Parma was recently interviewed on Recuerdo Radio. For more information (and to listen to the interview in the site's archives), click here.

Gabriel Sloyer just started rehearsals for Bubble Boy, a musical written by
Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio based on the cult comedy film starring Jake Gyllenhaal. The musical is being directed by Jen Wineman and presented in November by American Theater Group at the Hamilton Stage of the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, New Jersey. For more information, click here. In addition, he and Jorge Pupo shot a commercial for Emblem Health.

Teatro Círculo is presenting Eva Cristina Vásquez's Carmen Loísaida. Based on the famous Prosper Merimée novella Carmen, it is directed by Beatriz Córdoba and will run in November at Teatro Círculo's space in Manhattan's East Village and star Vásquez, José Cheo Oliveras, Diana Chery, Winston Estévez, Jessica Florí, Carlos Alberto Valencia, William Saquicela, Edna Lee Figueroa and Mariana Buoninconti. For more information, click here.

Daphne Rubin-Vega can be seen in a Photo Flash article in Broadway World as The Nurse in the Classic Stage Company's production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Directed by Téa Alagić, the production will take place in October and November at CSC's eponymous theater space located in Manhattan's East Village.
