HOLA Member Bochinche


Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja), shown at right, will be honored by the Bronx Music Heritage Center, where she is to be named a "Bronx Living Legend" and receive a tribute/live concert with performances by Anthony Carrillo, Simply Rob, Dimitri Minucci, Julio Rodríguez, and others. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Bronx Museum of the Arts in the Morrisania section of the Bronx and hosted by Ángel R. Rodríguez, Sr.

Monte Bezell and Abraham Makany guest-starred on an episode of "Homeland" (Showtime).

Carlos A. González will be performing standup comedy as part of the Dads of Comedy on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Gotham Comedy Club in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. For more information, click here. He also recently performed at NBCUniversal's New York headquarters for Hispanic Heritage Month. Allison Strong, shown at left, is singing with her band for an acoustic set (with piano) on Saturday afternoon, October 5, 2013 at Rockwood Music Hall, located in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. For more information, click here or here.

2013 HOLA Awards recipient Alfonso Rey is directing a production of Gustavo Ott's Passport. It will be presented
as part of the IV Festival del Comisionado de la Cultura Dominicana en EEUU. The play will star Noëlle Mauri, Miriam Pinedo and Rey and will run in October at the Comisionado de la Cultura Dominicana en EEUU, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.

Esteban Rodríguez Alverio, shown at right, will be acting in Edward Albee's Everything in the Garden. Directed by Andrew Pollard, it will run in November at Aaron Davis Hall in the Harlem area of Manhattan.

2013 HOLA Awards recipient Josean Ortiz is directing a production of Nicolás Dorr's Confesión en el Barrio Chino. The play, when presented in New York, netted him an HOLA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Direction, will be presented by Amigos del Corralón at El Corralón de San José in Viejo San Juan, Puerto Rico and will star 2013 HOLA Award recipient Amneris Morales (who won an HOLA Award for the New York production as well), Luis Muñoz and Kevin Eng in the cast.

Miriam Cruz and Miguel Algarín, shown at left, from left to right, will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños at the Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work (located in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood) on Thursday, October 17, 2013, the former for her work as an actress and founder-producer of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater and the latter for his work as a poet-performer, professor, icon of the Nuyorican literary movement and founder of the Nuyorican Poets' Café.
