Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Marlene Villafañe, shown at right, performed her self-penned solo show Marlene Goes To Hollywood. Directed by Byron C. Saunders, the play recently won The ONE Festival (presented by Caicedo Productions), and as a result, received a run at Teatro Círculo's namesake space in Manhattan's East Village.
2016 HOLA Awards recipient A.B. Lugo will have one of his poems read at the latest installment of the Rescate Poético event. Created by Amneris Morales, Belange Rodríguez and Carlos Manuel Rivera, this particular performance will be presented in November as part of the Borimix Puerto Rico Fest and feature the three of them and musician Emanuel Roque performing the works of Clemente Soto Vélez, Julia de Burgos, Manuel del Cabral, José de Diego, Francisco Matos Paoli, Clara Lair, Luis Lloréns Torres, Pedro Mir, Luis Rodríguez (Laro) and Herbie Rodríguez. The event will take place at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. For more information, click here.
Manuel A. Morán and Natalia Ivana Escobar, shown at left and at right, respectively, were featured in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog, written and edited by 2016 HOLA Awards recipient Héctor Luis Rivera (also see below), where Morán was mentioned for co-producing the Micro Theater New York/Micro Teatro New York festival. Starting in November, the festival will feature five short plays including Carolina Laursen's Superterapia, which is directed by Lula L. and co-produced and co-starring Escobar. The festival will take place at The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. To read the blog, which is in Spanish, click here. 2016 HOLA Awards recipient Héctor Luis Rivera (also see above) is directing Alejandro Casona's La sirena varada. The TEBA production will be presented in December at the Broadway Blackbox Theater in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.
