HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. 2016 HOLA Awards recipient Alfonso Rey, shown at right, in character, won Best Monologue and Best Script honors at the 6th Festival de Teatro de Pequeño Formato for performing the Marcos Purroy solo show #PopularDirected by Rey, it was presented in November at the ArtSpoken Performing Arts Center in Miami, Florida, after a successful run in New York, where it also won Best Monologue at the Monologando y Contando Ando Festival.

Edna Lee Figueroashown at left, booked a role in the short film Desesperación (written and directed by Lin Que Ayoung) after the director spotted her headshot and resume in the HOLA online directory of talent and called her in to audition. In addition, she is stage managing the Charles Rice-González play Los Nutcrackers: A Christmas Carajo. Directed by Luis Caballero, the production will be presented in December by and at the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance (BAAD!), located in the Westchester Square neighborhood of the Bronx. Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja), shown at right, was interviewed by Pepatián as part of their series of Bronx Hip Hop Academy Interviews, where she speaks about her life and career as an artist and teacher. To see the interview, click here.

Modesto Flako Jiménez, shown at left, in character, was featured in the weekly newspaper Brooklyn Paper, where it highlighted his latest project, where he co-stars opposite Olander "Big O" Wilson in Furry!/¡La furia! Written and directed by William Blake (and translated by Jiménez and Mariela Regalado), the Brooklyn Gypsies production (which is performed in Spanglish) is scheduled for a November run at The Bushwick Starr, located in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn.
