Mildred Ruiz-Sapp, shown above right, and her husband Steven Sapp, received The Charles Flint Kellogg Award in Arts and Letters at the recent convocation in June of the pair's alma mater, Bard College (located in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York). The Sapps were honored for the lives they have lived in pursuit of art and social justice.
Rhina Valentín, shown at left, was selected as the Madrina (godmother) of the 30th annual Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade which took place on Sunday, June 5, 2016 on the NYC borough's famed thoroughfare, the Grand Concourse (officially the Grand Boulevard and Concourse) between Poe Park and Van Cortlandt Avenue East (between the Kingsbridge Heights and Van Cortlandt Village neighborhoods of the Bronx). Joel A. Luna, shown at right, booked a role on an episode of the television series "A Perfect Murder" (Investigation Discovery). The episode will air tonight, Wednesday, June 8, 2016 (check local listings). He received the gig after the casting director found his profile in the HOLA online directory and called him in to audition.
Aileene Pérez, shown at left, was selected as Actress, Revelation of the Year for the first annual Festival de Comedias (presented by Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos). She was cited for her work in the José Martínez Queirolo play Q.E.P.D. (Que en paz descansen), presented by Teatro Vanguardia USA and co-starring and directed by Iván L. Argudo (also see below). She will receive the honor tonight, Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at a ceremony at the Broadway Blackbox Theater (in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood), where the festival took place. Marlene Forté, shown at right, was interviewed for the Horror News Net (HNN) blog, where she spoke of her life and career, which most recently includes her role as Celia Flores (the mother of Luis Flores, played by Arturo Del Puerto) on the television series "Fear The Walking Dead" (AMC). Pablo Andrade, shown at left, and María Fontanals will be teaching the first ever Uta Hagen workshop taught in Spanish at world famous HB Studio (founded by Hagen's husband Herbert Berghof). The workshop, titled "Explorando monólogos con la técnica de Uta Hagen" ("Exploring Monologues with the Uta Hagen Method"), is a rigorous, four-day program taking place in July 2016.
