HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Jeannie Sol and Manuel A. Morán, shown above, from left to right, in character, were mentioned in the New York weekly newspaper La Voz Hispana, due to their participation in the production of La Gloria: A Latin Cabaret. Written by Norge Espinosa and produced and directed by Morán, the evening honors the music of Cuba's La Sonora Matancera, and its three singers: Celia Cruz, Myrta Silva, and Daniel Santos. The production stars Sol, Morán and Milteri Tucker, and will have additional performances (due to popular demand) in January and February at Teatro SEA's eponymous theater, located in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. This production is a collaboration with Cuba's internationally acclaimed puppet theater troupe, Teatro de Las Estaciones. For more information about the production, click here.

Marco Antonio Rodríguez is proud to announce that his award-winning play La Luz de un cigarrillo is returning to New York. The production, directed by Rodríguez, will star original cast members Susanna Guzmán, Arisleyda Lombert and Teresa Yenque, along with new cast member Juan Carlos Díaz (who will take on the role of Julio César). The play will have performances in February at the Teatro Rafael Villalona at the Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. Due to popular demand, Repertorio Español is adding performances for its world premiere of Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter (La tía Julia y el escribidor). Written by Caridad Svich and based on the autobiographical novel by Mario Vargas Llosa, it is directed by José Zayas and stars Pablo AndradeLuis Carlos de La LombanaGerardo Gudiño, Alfonso Rey, and others. The play is being presented at Repertorio Español's namesake theater, located in the Rose Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. For more information, click here.

Vladimir Ríos, shown at right, in character, along with photographer Lester Blum, created The Warrior of Hope, a photo series (and accompanying book) in which Ríos plays the titular character. The Warrior of Hope is currently being exhibited at the Brad Brafford LGBT Center in Santa Ana, California, where it has been extended to Sunday, February 7, 2016. Héctor Luis RiveraKathy Tejada, and Lissette Montolío star in Franco Galecio's play La espera. Directed by Galecio, the Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos (TEBA) production will take place in February at the Broadway Blackbox Theater, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.
