HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Vladimir Ríos, shown at right, in character, and photographer Lester Blum were interviewed in the Visual AIDS blog, where they spoke of their collaboration with the photo series I Still Remember. An epic, compelling photographic narrative (and accompanying book of photos) which tells a powerful and moving story of the quest for love, destruction, and remembrance, it takes place in the gay culture of New York City in the 1980s and 1990s. I Still Remember commemorates those who have passed from HIV/AIDS-related causes and to help educate a younger generation about the early years of the disease. I Still Remember can be seen until Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Staten Island LGBT Community Center in the Tompkinsville section of Staten Island. To read the interview, which includes some photos of the photo series (caution: some photos are not safe for work), click here.

Lucio Fernández, shown at left, was profiled in the Hudson County TV blog, where his recent collaboration with the Cuban musical band Máxima Alerta (for the song "Vive la vida") was highlighted. To read the blog, which features a music video of their collaboration, click here.

Angie Regina just completed a run as the title character in La danza de Mingó. Produced by Otro Teatro NY, the play is written by Haffe Serulle and directed by Billy Martin Mejía. The production took place in January 2016 at Teatro Rafael Villalona in the Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.

Carlo Lorenzo García is directing a production of David Mamet's American Buffalo. Produced by the Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company, it is running now through March 2016 at Angel Island Theater, located in the Lake View section of Chicago, Illinois. For more information, click here, here, and here.
