Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Kiki Meléndez, shown at right, is featured and interviewed for an article in the New York Daily News regarding her career as an actress and standup comedienne and her "docu-comedy" Journey of a Female Comic (written by Meléndez with Lynn McCullough and co-directed by Meléndez and Erick Crespo), which has been playing at AMC movie theaters in Southern California for the last couple of weeks and which opens in AMC movie theaters in New York City this weekend. The film also features appearances from Nadine Velázquez, Esaí Morales, Lupe Ontiveros, María Conchita Alonso, Jacob Vargas, Guy Ecker, Johnny Ray Rodríguez, Susan Rybin, among others. J.W. Cortés sang The Star-Spangled Banner on Thursday, May 15, 2014 before the "Hurricane" Junior Wright-Steve Bujaj WBC boxing match at The Millennium Theatre in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn.
David Vega was interviewed in an article in the Spaniard newspaper El Diario Montañes (serving the Cantabria and Santander regions of Spain) where the Hollywood premiere of the film Airplane vs. Volcano (written and directed by James and Jon Kondelik, billed as The Kondelik Brothers), in which he stars, was featured. Rosa Rodríguez is one of the stars of the play When Janey Comes Marching Home. Written by Kym Gomes and John Grabowski and based on the book of interviews of female veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan conducted and compiled by Laura Browder, the play is being produced by the Brava Company and Chelsea Rep LAB as part of the Planet Connections Festival. Proceeds from the production will benefit the Service Women's Action Network (SWAN). The production will have a production on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Paradise Factory, located in Manhattan's East Village. For more information, click here.
Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos (TEBA) is presenting an English-language production of the Spanish play Suicide is Prohibited in Springtime. Written by Alejandro Casona and directed by Héctor Luis Rivera, it will have a June run in the Broadway Blackbox Theater in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood and star A.B. Lugo, Alexandra Manzano, María Richardson, Jennifer Quinn, Dennis Maragliano, Rivera and Ángel Alcántara.
