The 58th annual Drama Desk Awards nominations were announced at the end of April for the 2012-1013 season. The Drama Desk Awards, which are given annually in a number of categories, are the only major
New York theater honors for which productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway
and Off-Off Broadway compete against each other in the same category.
Formed in 1949 by a group of New York theater critics, editors,
reporters, and publishers, the organization was created to educate the
community on vital issues concerning the theater. Among the nominees are Lindsay Méndez (Outstanding Actress in a
Musical for Dogfight), Rubén Santiago-Hudson (Outstanding Director of a Play for The Piano Lesson), Sergio Trujillo (Outstanding Choreography for Hands on a Hard Body), César Álvarez (along with his band The Lisps, Outstanding Music in a Play for Good Person of Szechwan) and Pedro Pires
(Outstanding Projection Design for Cirque du Soleil: Totem).
The 58th annual Drama Desk Awards will take place on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Town Hall, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. To find out who the other nominees are, click here.
