Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface. To see what other HOLA members are doing currently, click here.
Modesto Flako Jiménez, shown at right, has been quite busy as of late. The award-winning actor-writer-director-producer is working on several projects. First up, he curated the Oye! Avant Garde Night festival for his production company Brooklyn Gypsies. The annual festival will feature several performers in September at Jack (located in the Clinton Hill area in Brooklyn). For more information, click here or here. Next up will be A Night with The Last Hipster and Friends. A variety show with the centerpiece being an excerpt of the solo show The Last Hipster in Brooklyn (written and performed by Nick E. Finn and directed by Jiménez), it will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2016 at Lucky Jack's NYC (located in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood). For more information, click here. Jiménez will then act in The Wooster Group's production of Early Shaker Spirituals. Developed and produced by The Wooster Group, the piece is directed by Kate Valk, and will be presented in September and October as part of the Festival d'Automne à Paris at the Centre Pompidou located in the 4e arrondissement of Paris, France. For more information, click here. Finally, he will perform his self-penned solo show Oye for My Dear Brooklyn. Directed by Artem Yatsunov, it will be presented in October at The Performing Garage in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood. For more information about that production, click here.
2016 HOLA Awards recipient Maite Uzal, shown at left, was mentioned in the Spanish newspaper El Periódico de Aragón, where her starring role in the film Retry was mentioned (in an interview with the film's writer-director Marina Badía). To read the article, which is in Spanish, click here.
Edna Lee Figueroa and Edmi De Jésus, shown at right, in character, from left to right (or is that top to bottom?) are starring in the play Santa Bárbara es una femme fatale. The two-hander (with an all-HOLA member cast) was written by Camila Monclova and Mariana Monclova and will be directed by Jorge Dieppa and presented in September at the ArtSpoken Performing Arts Center in Miami, Florida. For more information about the show and to buy tickets, click here.
Marcos Sotomayor, shown at left, is co-starring in the film Terminal Legacy: Lost Souls (written and directed by Kazy Tauginas). He also served as cinematographer and editor for the film thriller from New Lease Films. To see the trailer for the film short, click on the video below.
