Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Alicia Kaplan and Gloria Zelaya, shown at left and at right, flanked by Liliana Barrera and Yunior Ventura, were honored by the Senate of the State of New Jersey for their distinguished achievements in theater. The ceremony took place in conjunction with the Festival Internacional de Teatro - Mujeres en Escena (FITME 2015), which is taking place in November at the William V. Musto Cultural Center-Union City Museum in the West Hoboken area of Union City, New Jersey.
2015 HOLA Awards recipient Idalmis García co-stars in the award-winning movie Conducta (Behavior). Written and directed by Ernesto Daranas, the film recently screened at the Brattleboro Film Festival (occurring in October and November 2015) in Brattleboro, Vermont. Indio Meléndez and Inma Heredia performed at the benefit for the Rosie Berrido short film Friendship. It is the first in a trilogy of short films on dying with dignity. Written and directed by Berrido, the project will star Teresa Yenque and Mateo Gómez. The benefit took place in November at Camaradas El Barrio bar and restaurant located in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood.
Joel Pérez, seated at center in the photo at right, was featured along with writer Alison Bechdel, actors Roberta Colindrez and Beth Malone, and writer Lisa Kron, as part of Out Magazine's Out100 list. They were featured for their involvement in the Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home (written by Jeanine Tesori and Kron, based on the graphic memoir by Bechdel, directed by Sam Gold). Raphael Benavides and Mike Oquendo are presenting Made in Puerto Rico. Written, performed and directed by Elizardi Castro, the solo show will be presented in November at the Poets Den Theater in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood. For more information, click here or here.
