Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Gloria Zelaya, shown at right, booked a role in The Record. Created by 600 Highwaymen (led by Abigail Browde and Michael Silverstone), the performance piece is being presented as part of the Under the Radar Festival at the Public Theater in Manhattan's NoHo neighborhood. She booked the role through an HOLA casting referral. For more information about the production, click here.
Gilbert Cruz will be performing in a new Deborah Zoe Laufer play Informed Consent at
GeVa Theater (in Rochester, New York) and the Cleveland Playhouse (in Cleveland, Ohio). The production will be directed by Sean Daniels and run between February and May 2014.
Juan Carlos Pinedo just wrapped up filming the film Grace Period (directed by Maria Della Croce).
Jeannie Sol and Manuel Morán were highlighted in Impacto Latin News for the roles in the musical revue Rafael Hernández... Romance. Created and directed by Morán and featuring the songs of Puerto Rico's most famous composer, it is produced by and at Teatro SEA (located in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center, home to HOLA, in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood). Sol and Morán can be seen, along with fellow cast members Ana Campos, Iván Alexander Bautista, Ángel Feliciano and Laura Kalop (and a photo of Hernández himself), clearly marked in the article.
Mike Smith Rivera will be performing alongside Kelly Anne Burns and others in a workshop production of Holy Crab! Written by Zhu Yi, the play is directed by Ana Margineanu and produced by Youngblood/EST for their Unfiltered 2013 festival. The performances will take place at Ensemble Studio Theatre (located in the Hell's Kitchen/Clinton neighborhood of Manhattan) in December. For more information, click here or here.
Luis Antonio Ramos was named a 2013 Latino Trendsetter by Latin Trends magazine. For more information, click here. He was also featured in the New York Daily News VIVA section where Latino celebrities were asked to share a Christmas memory. He can be seen in the bottom center of the photo at right. He is also starring in the movie A Miracle in Spanish Harlem (directed by Derek Vélez Partridge and photographed by Edwin Pagán), set to hit U.S. movie theaters nationwide on Friday, December 6, 2013. The movie also stars Kate Del Castillo, Fátima Ptáček, Priscilla López, André Royo and Tony Plana. For more information, click here.
