HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members who are getting acting and performance gigs. The names of HOLA members are in boldface.

Luis Salgado, shown at right, was the subject of several articles, including one for Broadway World, for the production Candela: Fuerza y pasión scheduled to take place this month in Lima, Perú. In addition, he is in pre-production for directing the stage musical Fame. Fama, el musical (as it is titled in Spanish), it is based on the hit film and television series and is conceived and developed by David De Silva; written by José Fernández (book); Steve Margoshes (music); and Jacques Levy (lyrics), the production is produced by Pura Vibra and D1 and it is scheduled for a September run in Lima, Perú. Yanelba Ferreira performed in a special showcase production of Yo Soy Latina! Written and directed by Linda Nieves-Powell, the production took place in March at The Singers Forum in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and also starred Elisabeth Ann South and Flor Bromley. In addition, she attended the sneak peek of the webseries "Happy Cancer Chick," in which she stars. The webseries, produced and directed by Nieves-Powell and Jenny Lídice Saldaña had its red carpet premiere at the Clearview Chelsea Cinema in the Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan.

Christopher James López e-mailed us to say that the short film The Cure, which he produced, directed and co-wrote and co-starred in (with Davi Santos), will be screened at the prestigious and world-renowned Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to take place in May 2012 in Cannes, France.

Marisel Polanco will be one of the playwrights in the latest installment of New York Madness. New York Madness is a raw and unpredictable show of short plays by an ensemble of playwrights. Each night has a Theme which is decided on by the Producing Playwright. The Theme is given out a week before the event and then the collective works by all the writers in an evening kaleidoscope that cultural moment. This installment of New York Madness will occur on Sunday, March 18, 2012 with featured guest Producing Playwright Daniel Talbott and will take place at Joria Productions in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. Repertorio Español presented Crónica de una muerte anunciada. Written by Gabriel García Márquez and directed by Jorge Alí Triana, it went on tour and was performed at the Centro de Bellas Artes in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico this past March. The show featured Anthony Álvarez, Raul Durán, Gerardo Gudiño, Mario Mattei, Alberto Morgan, Pep Muñoz, Mónica Perez-Brandes, Eric Robledo, Marcelo Rodríguez, Silvia Sierra, Richard Trujillo, Gredivel Vásquez, Tatiana Vecino, Fulvia Vergel and Teresa Yenque in the cast.

Edvin Ortega booked a commercial for ABC's "Eyewitness News" for the New York market.

LaMicro Theater and Equilicuá Productions are presenting Nocturnal Creatures. Written by Juan Mayorga (and translated by David Johnston), the play is directed by Jerry Ruiz and will be presented in March at The Directors Company at the theater district of midtown Manhattan. The cast includes Pietro González, Berioska Ipinza, Puy Navarro and Francisco Reyes. For more information, click either here or here.
