Gina Rodríguez and Alejandro González Iñárritu were among the big winners at the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards, which took place on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Alejandro González Iñárritu's film Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), picked up two awards, one for Lead Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for Michael Keaton, and one for González Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Armando Bó for the Screenplay Award.
Gina Rodríguez nabbed an award for Lead Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical for her performance as the title role of The CW's "Jane The Virgin". She beat out television veterans Lena Dunham, Edie Falco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Taylor Schilling, for the freshman series which was also renewed for a second season by The CW (which earned its first Golden Globe nomination and award for the network last night) earlier that day.
In her heartfelt, touching speech, she said, "This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes". (Also kudos to Kerry Washington for pronouncing Rodríguez's name in the Spanish way). She then quoted her father who used to always tell her that every morning she should say, "Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will." She then added, "Well, Dad, today is a great day. I can and I will."
Congratulations to all the 2015 Golden Globe Award winners. (Photos on this blog were taken by Ellen von Unwerth. More photos can be seen by clicking here.)
