CANTINFLAS Biopic Does Well At The U.S. Box Office For Opening Weekend In Limited Release

The biopic Cantinflas, about the life of one of the world's funniest comedians (the Mexican-born Mario Moreno "Cantinflas"), opened in limited release in the United States on Friday, August 29, 2014. The film, written by Edui Tijerina and Sebastián Del Amo and directed by Del Amo, starred Óscar Jaenada in the title role. The film also starred Michael Imperioli, Ilse Salas and Bárbara Mori. According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed in its opening weekend (the four-day Labor Day weekend) just over $3.35 million in 382 theaters (which comes out to an average of $8,791 per theater, the highest per theater average of any film in the top 25).
