HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting and performance gigs. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface.

Judy Torres, shown at left, is set to return to the role of Aunt Toni Ann in My Big Gay Italian Wedding. The long running show (written by Anthony J. Wilkinson with music and lyrics by David Boyd and directed by Sonia Blangiardo) will run in November and December at the St. Luke's Theater in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja) performed with Grammy-nominated Bobby Sanábria and Quarteto Aché as part of 'Quoth the Raven': Edgar Allan Poe en El Bronx. Presented by the Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) as part of its Live from the POEMobile series, the event was organized by City Lore and Bowery Arts and Science and featured the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe. It took place in September at the BDC's headquarters in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx. For more information, click here.

Rodney Roldán booked a supporting in the SAG-AFTRA feature film Wards Island (produced by Chris Olen Ray and also featuring Jayson Simba). He, along with Yanelba Ferreira, also appeared on the talk show "Lights! Camera! Action!" (Arlington Independent Media).

Gabriel Sloyer is currently in rehearsals for José Cruz González's Los valientes. A new chamber music theater production for chamber music trio and solo actor exploring the artistic and political passions of Diego Rivera, the unwavering commitment to human rights of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero and the pursuit of social justice by Mexican  desperado Joaquín Carrillo Murrieta, the music for this show will feature songs and concert/vernacular music by Latin American composers. The show will be directed by Mark Lynch, with music performed by Michael Parola, Hugh Hinton and Tahira Whittington. For more information, click here.

There is a birthday reading celebration for Nuyorican movement founder Miguel Algarín. Poets will perform for the famed poet and founder of the Nuyorican Poets' Café. Some of the performers include Joe Pacheco, Brian Omni Dillon, Carlos Manuel Rivera, Rome Neal, Charlie Vázquez, Ray DeJesús, Danny Shot, Jeff Wright, Puma Perl, Mahogany L. Browne, Edwin Torres, Nancy Mercado, Lydia Cortés, Tsaurah Litzky and others. Produced by RA "R!" Araya, the event will take place on Spetember 10, 2012 at Mama's Bar, near the Nuyorican Poets' Café in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. For more information, click here.


Miriam Cólon Valle
is directing Palabra de mujer (A Woman's Word). Featuring the works of Latina writers Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro, Rosario Ferré, Magdalena Gómez, Carmen Lugo Filippi, Tere Marichal, Nancy Morejón, Desi Moreno-Penson, Olga Nolla, Yrene Santos, Mayra Santos Febres, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Ana Lydia Vega, the work features the talent of Marisol Carrere (see below), Rosal Colón, Miguel Juan Concepción, Sol Crespo, Miriam Cruz, Jeanette González, Mario Mattei, Desi Moreno-Penson, Josean Ortiz and Soledad Romero. The production will take place in September at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. For more information, click here.

Marisol Carrere's I Am Julia, the film she co-produced (with Gloria Zelaya), co-starred in and wrote, will screen at the Williamsburg International Film Festival (WILLiFEST). The film is directed by David Capurso and stars Leidi Salazar, Carolina Ravassa, Carrere, Doua Moua, Tationna Bousier, Brenda Gómez, Zahaira Curiel and Tamara Turner. The screening will take place on Friday, September 21, 2012 at El Puente, located in the Williamsburg area (natch) of Brooklyn. For more information, click here.

Marco Antonio Rodríguez
, Arisleyda Lombert and Ismael Cruz Córdova were interviewed by Odalys Molina and Alfredo Galván on the program "Acceso Total" on the Telemundo network. The spoke about the production La luz de un cigarrillo (written and directed by Rodríguez and starring Susanna Guzmán, Córdova (see above), Lombert and Teresa Yenque). The Teatro LATEA/Lehman Stages production, which won five (5) 2011 HOLA Awards, will have a September run at Lehman Stages, located in the Bedford Park area of the Bronx.
