HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. José Yenque, shown at right, holding award and envelope, won a Best Supporting Actor award from the San Diego Film Awards (presented by Film Consortium San Diego, based in San Diego, California) for his role in the film short In A Parallel World (written by Pablo Andrade, Mario Genel and Yenque; directed by Genel). The film itself won the Best Short Narrative Award. For more information, click here and here.

Lucio Fernández will be performing with Máxima Alerta on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the world famous S.O.B.'s, located in Manhattan's West Village. For more information, including how to buy tickets, click here.

José Roldán, Jr., shown at leftpresented his award-winning, self-penned solo show Father Forgive Me For I Have Sinned (developed with and directed by Dante Albertie) in March at the Last Chapter Pub in Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in Manchester, New Hampshire. Suni Reyes has been continuing hitting the stage as a standup comedy and improv comedy performer. She performed in the comedy show 
Awk Sex: Planned Parenthood, We Got You. The show, a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood, took place at Pleasure Chest New York in Manhattan's East Side. For more information, click here or hereShe also performed in the comedy production The Roles That Got Away. Created and directed by Lauren Brickman and Caitlin Bitzegaio, it took place in March at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Theatre in Manhattan's East Village. Finally, she performed in March with UCB in their improv comedy show Bundt at UCB Chelsea, located in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. For more information, click here.


The Héctor Luis Sin Censura (HLSC) blog, written and edited by Héctor Luis Rivera, presented the inaugural Latino Alternative Theater Awards (LATA) this March at El Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. The winners were nominated by HLSC, and decided on by online voting. The HOLA members who received LATAs this year include Caridad del Valle (also see below), Mario Golden, Vivienne Jurado, A.B. Lugo, Billy Martin Mejía, Aileene Pérez, Angie Regina and Raúl Rivera. In addition, E3Outlaws Productions (under the leadership of Enmanuel García Villavicencio) received a special award for the creation of its Lorca Al Desnudo Festival. The Asociación de Teatro Independente (ATI) presented this year's ATI Awards in March at the Julia de Burgos Cultural Center in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood.
