HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface.

Liza Colón-Zayas, shown at right, will be acting in Stand By Me: Reliable Plays. The series of short plays are written by children and performed by adults. It will be produced in April by the 52nd Street Project, an organization that brings inner-city children together with professional theater artists. Other actors performing alongside her include Billy Crudup, Peter Dinklage and Lili Taylor. The performances will take place at Five Angels Theater in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan. Vanessa Verduga, shown at left, was highlighted and hailed as an “emerging talent” in an article by A.C. Lee in The New York Times for “Justice Woman”, the webseries she created, wrote and in which she stars as the titular character. For more information, click here.

Caridad de la Luz
(also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja), along with with Bonafide Rojas, Mariposa and MelleSol will be the featured performers of the sixth anniversary of the ¡Capicú! Cultural Showcase, scheduled to take place on Friday, March 22, 2013 at EvilOlive in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood. For more information, click here.

Jeannie Sol and JBu are performing for Ms. Sol's birthday on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Mamajuana Café Dyckman, located in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan.

Ziad Tayeh
is starring in the horror-comedy webseries “A Burger To Die For” (written by Cyril Mahe, Tanzeel Kanzani and Ron Denson and directed by Mahe).

Carlos A. González stars in the film A Life in Shadows (directed by Ernie Hiyane). It is scheduled to screen in New York in April before being screen at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. In addition, he will be hosting Comedy Night at Niko's on Friday, April 5, 2013 in White Plains, New York. His special guests will include comedians Peaches Rodríguez, Ray Marshall, Phoebe Robinson and Kenny Ortega.

Teatro Ekklesia is presenting La Pasión
. Directed by Ediberto Saldaña, the play stars Héctor Luis Rivera, Ana Montero, Zulema Santos, María Teresa Silva and others and will have three performances in March at churches in Manhattan’s Harlem and El Barrio neighborhood as part of the Lent and Holy Week celebrations. Milteri Tucker
was the associate choreographer and performed in the ensemble for the Columbia Stages production of Marie Christine. The musical, written by Michael John LaChiusa and directed by Raymond Zilberberg, had a March run at 3LD, located in Manhattan’s TriBeCa area. For more information, click here.

Mariana Parma
performed in Tangos: From Gardel to Piazzolla. The tango performance was led by tango master Rómulo Larrea and performed in March at the Markham Theatre for the Performing Arts in Markham, Ontario, Canada. For more information, click here.
