Report: 2015 HOLA Awards Announcement Ceremony
On a balmy Tuesday afternoon, July 21, 2015, the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) announced the honorees and awardees of the sixteenth annual HOLA Awards at the Repertorio Español in Manhattan. They were announced by HOLA Associate Director A.B. Lugo, HOLA member Franco González, and previous HOLA theater awardee Belange Rodríguez.
At the start of the announcements, Lugo took a moment to highlight three people in the industry who have passed away in the past year (two of which passed away within the last two weeks). The two who most recently passed away were performer-writer-poet Anita Vélez-Mitchell and costume designer Antonio Reyes. The third person mentioned passed away the day after the 2014 HOLA Awards ceremony– Elizabeth Peña. HOLA is presenting an award in her honor, the HOLA Elizabeth Peña Breakthrough Award.
Another new honor is a collaboration between HOLA and R.Evolución Latina. This award will honor someone who is an inspiration to Latinos (especially Latino youth) and one who gives back to the Latino community. It is called the HOLA and R.Evolución Latina Dare To Go Beyond Award.
In addition, HOLA announced the HOLA Performer's Choice Awards, where one can vote for his/her favorite production and solo production. The Performer's Choice awardees would be announced at the 2015 HOLA Awards ceremony.
Awards were announced for people in theater, film and television. Before and after the presentation, wine was served. As the presentation ended, several of the attendees lingered to congratulate the awardees in attendance. To see a full list of the awardees and honorees, click here.
The 2015 HOLA Awards will take place on Monday, October 12, 2015 (El Día de la Raza/Columbus Day) at The Battery Gardens, located in Battery Park at the southernmost tip of Manhattan, New York City. For more information, click here. To buy tickets for the 2015 HOLA Awards, click here.
