The Nuyorican Poets' Café is presenting a Lifetime Achievement Award to John Leguizamo, shown at left. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 8pm and the Nuyorican's eponymous space located in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. As part of the event, there will be performances by Caridad De La Luz (aka La Bruja, her nom de poésie), Carlos Andrés Gómez, Advocate of Wordz, Nisha Asnani, Aurora Barnes and the 2011 Nuyorican Slam Team (Omni, Carvens, Witness, Souldul and Tre G).
In addition, Caridad De La Luz (see above) will be performing at the I'm Just Saying Live Poetry and Art Showcase. Presented by The Xmental, Inc. and supported by The Fashion Center Business Improvement District, the event will take place on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 7pm at the Port Authority Bus Terminal located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. Hosted by Ralph "Tatu Xmen" Pérez, the performers include A. Lyric, Bonfide Rojas, True, Vanessa Mártir (also known as La Loba), Speakers of the House, B. Ariezaga, Marthalicia Matarrita, Nelson Host Santiago, Daphne the Diva and Love in Publik.
The Family Theater Company's Cabaret arm is presenting Futuristic Flower Power: An Evening of Poetry, Art and Music. The evening will take place on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 7:30pm at Karma Lounge in Manhattan's East Village and will feature performance and works by Elizabeth Rivera de García (aka SoulSistaRican, her nom de poésie), Choomasi, Liz Marotti, Carlos Morales, The Way She Goes, Joshua Rosen, Mike Rome and Aimé Alonzo and others.
Ziad Tayeh booked a role on the television series "Hunted" (Discovery Channel).
