Mônica Steuer recently the Puerto Rico premiere of the Sonia Fritz film America, where she acted opposite Edward James Olmos, Tony Plana, Yancey Arias, Rachel Ticotín, Lymari Nadal and Frank Perozo. In addition, the Andrés Ramírez film Elite, where she acts opposite Denise Quiñones, José Yenque, José Brocco and Frank Perozo, played at movie theaters in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and will soon be available on DVD.
Thalía Spanish Theatre will be presenting Jaime Espinal's new play No Problemo, Amigo. The play was the first prize winner of Inter-American Development Bank's Hispanic American Playwriting Competition. Produced, directed and designed by Ángel Gil Orrios (with assistant directing by Martha Luisa Osorio), the play stars Espinal, Susan Rybin, Alicia Kaplan, Francisco Fuertes, Premier Solís, Jesús E. Martínez, Yolanda Castillo, Andrés Martínez and Alexandra Gutiérrez in the cast and is scheduled for a May and June run at Thalía's namesake theater in the Sunnyside section of Queens.
Caridad De La Luz (also known by her nom de poésie La Bruja), along with Narubi Selah, Tato Laviera and J.F. Seary will be performing at the birthday bash for the LatinosNYC blog at El Fogón in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. She, along with Jessie Flores and Cynthia Paniagua, appeared in the film BX-Rated: La Mezclatina Rising, Volume 1. The film, directed by Nadia Hallgren and edited by Jessie Flores, was shown in April at BAAD! the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, located in Hunts Point section of the South Bronx.
Also being screened in the Havana Film Festival New York is Jagger, a short film written and directed by Gabriel Flores. The short stars Alfonso Rey, María Fernanda Rodríguez and Luis Carlos de La Lombana (the last as iconic rock frontman Mick Jagger). For more info, click here.
