Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Fortuna Calvo, shown at right in the photo at right alongside New York State Senator Liz Krueger, was honored as A Woman of Distinction by Senator Krueger in a ceremony held in the New York State Senate in May. The recognition followed a State Senate resolution acknowledging Calvo and other women throughout New York State as 2014 Women of Distinction. For 19 years, the New York State Senate has given this honor in May in commemoration of Women's History Month in New York.
Procreart is presenting Alejandro Sieveking's La remolienda. Directed by Peter A. Dubó, the play will be presented in June at Instituto Cervantes in Manhattan's Turtle Bay neighborhood and feature William Pérez, Vivienne Jurado, Edison Carrera and Elena Mohedano in the cast. Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja) is performing in La consulta/The Consultation. Produced by Pepatián and presented by Pregones-Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, the performance piece combines poetry, song (featuring musicians Eddie Montalvo and Desmar Guevara) and dance (choreography by Nilsa de la Luz and dancers). The show will be presented at Pregones Theater in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx. For more information, click here.
The documentary Edicifio central (directed by Diana Daf-Collazos and co-produced by Nathalie Tolentino) was selected as an official selection of The Americas Film Festival-New York (TAFFNY). It was screened on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the CWE/Division of Interdisciplinary Studies Auditorium/The City College of New York near Manhattan's Battery Park. For more information, click here.
