Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Casa de la Cultura Navarrete USA, Inc. will be presenting the IX Festival Internacional de Teatro CCN in August and September. The binational festival takes place in the Dominican Republic and the United States. The U.S. part of the festival will take place at the Broadway Blackbox Theater, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood and will be dedicated this year to award-winning actor Juan Villarreal, shown at right.
Natalia Ivana Escobar (also see below), Franco González and Jesica Levi are starring in ActSense: Ladies First. A series of one-act plays written by John Ladd, Jason Nunes, Jeanne Chenault Porter, Johnny Culver, Matt Sanders, and Michael Andrews, they are directed by Eric Leeb, Elizabeth Claflin, and Culver, respectively, and will take place in July at The Bridge Theater in Shetler Studios, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. The Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en los Estados Unidos (CoDoCul) has just wrapped up its fifth annual Festival de Teatro Hispano del Comisionado, which took place at the Comisionado's Teatro Rafael Villalona, which is located in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan. The festival has announced the winners for that festival's awards. The HOLA members who won awards include Natalia Ivana Escobar (also see above), for Best Actress; Ernesto De Villa Bejjani, for Best Scenic Design; and Paul Montoya, for Best Makeup. A.B. Lugo is performing in a workshop of the musical Bethlehem. Produced by Sans Comedia, it is written and directed by Julián J. Mesri, with assistant direction and stage management by Laura Riveros. It will start with a presentation at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX), located in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood, and be followed up with a workshop in August at Dixon Place, located in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood.
