HOLA Member Bochinche


Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface.

Juan Villarreal, shown at right, has been quite busy as of late. He wrapped up filming La vida inesperada (written by Elvira Lindo, directed by Jorge Torregrossa and also starring Javier Cámara, Raúl Arévalo, Carmen Ruiz and Luis Carlos de La Lombana). For more informationon this film, click here. He followed this up by shooting an episode of "Mortales" (Telemicro).






Ysmael Reyes, shown at left, booked an on-camera Spanish-language Verizon commercial.

The Karen Malpede play Another Life, starring George Bartenieff featuring Abraham Makany, will complete its run in New York's Theater for the New City and then be presented at the RADA Theater Festival in London, England, UK at the end of July.




Ollantay Center for the Arts is celebrating the life and work of playwright/director Manuel Martín during the month of April. Centered around the 30th anniversary of his play Union City Thanksgiving (Sanguivin en Union City), the events include a photo and poster exhibition, video interviews with the late theater artist, testimonials of friends and colleagues, and readings of his works. Participating artists include Blanca Camacho, Tony Chiroldes, Miriam Cruz, Felipe Gorostiza, Hannia Guillén, Sandor Juan, Tere Martínez, Ana Margarita Martínez-Casado and Gloria Zelaya. Locales included the Abrazo Interno Art Gallery and Teatro LATEA, both of which are in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in the Loísaida neighborhood of Manhattan; and Baruch College, located in the Rose Hill section of Manhattan.

Principal photography has wrapped for the short film You're Dead To Me (written by Wu Tsang and directed by Adelina Anthony), starring indie film darlings Laura Patalano and Harmony Santana. For more information, click here.

The film Under My Nails (written by Kisha Tikina Burgos and directed by Ari Maniel Cruz) is going to be screened in April at the 37th annual Cleveland International Film Festival. The film stars Iván Camilo (see below), Burgos, Maité Bonilla, Rosie Berrido, Marilú Acosta, Dolores Pedro, Enrique Juliá, Miranda Purcell and Antonio Pantojas in the cast.

Laura Gómez's short film To Kill A Roach
will be presented on April 17, 2013 at the XV Edición Muestra Internacional de Cine de Santo Domingo in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The film stars Gómez, Iván Camilo (see above), Jenniffer Díaz, Gabriela García, Rosie Berrido, Gabriel Gutiérrez and Puy Navarro in the cast; Edwin Pagán photographed the film.
