The Antoinette Perry (Tony) Award for Excellence in Theatre, more commonly known informally as the Tony Award, recognizes achievement in live Broadway theatre. The awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at an annual ceremony in New York City. The awards are given for Broadway productions and performances, and an award is given for regional theatre.
This year, Alex Lacamoire, shown at right, picked up his third Tony Award in the category of Orchestrations, for his work on the Pasek-Paul-Levenson musical Dear Evan Hansen, which would go on to win six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This is his second consecutive Tony in this category. (He won his previous Tony Awards for his orchestration work on the Miranda-Hudes musical In The Heights and last year, for the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical Hamilton).
