Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Daniel Anthony Hidalgo, shown at right, recently wrapped up a run of Mel's Art Exhibit. Written by Meghan Andrew and directed by Stephanie Curtiss, the interactive production was presented in December by Bearing Ember Productions at Access Theater. For more information, click here.
Éric-Dominique Pérez co-starred alongside 2016 HOLA Awards recipient Sandor Juan; Cedric Leiba, Jr.; Marlyn Matías; and Omar Pérez in participating in 48 Hours in... El Bronx. An event where six playwrights (including Marco Antonio Rodríguez), six directors (including 2016 HOLA Awards recipient Diego Chiri) and eighteen actors (including Juan, Leiba, Matías and Pérez) united in six 10-minute plays (created over the span of 48 hours) of six Bronx sources and events. The performances of the Harlem9 and Pregones-PRTT co-production took place in December at Pregones Theater, located in the Mott Haven area of the South Bronx. For more information, click here.
Mildred Ruiz-Sapp, shown in the photo at left, center, in character, was featured in an article in The Huffington Post, where her role as co-star and co-writer (as part of the performance collective Universes, which consists of Ruiz-Sapp, her husband Steven Sapp and her brother William "Ninja" Ruiz) of the stage production Party People, was highlighted. The recently-shuttered production was directed by Liesl Tommy and was presented at The Public Theater in Manhattan's NoHo neighborhood. To read the article, click here.
Adriana Gaviria just wrapped up a stint as co-producer of Hillary Bettis' play Alligator. Directed by Elena Araoz, the play was produced in November and December by The Sol Project (co-founded by Gaviria) and New Georges at The Jeffrey & Paula Gural Theatre at the A.R.T./New York Theatres, located in the Hell's Kitchen/Clinton area of Manhattan. Débora Balardini, shown at right, was nominated for Best Actress Brazilian Press Award for her role in the Grupo.BR production of Inside The Wild Heart (Dentro do Coração Selvagem). Co-conceived by Balardini and Andressa Furletti and directed by Regina Miranda, the production recently closed it run at the Immersive Gallery in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. Balardini is up for the award opposite her co-stars Furletti and Patrícia Faolli. In addition, her co-star Ricardo Burgos picked up a Best Actor nomination, and the play itself received a Best Theatrical Production/Spectacle nomination.
