HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Olga Merediz, shown at right, has just been cast as Alma in the upcoming FX situation comedy "Saint George" starring George López, Danny Trejo, Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza, Jenn Lyon, Kaden Gibson and David Zayas (see below). The show was created by López, sitcom veteran Matt Williams and David McFadzean.

Kiki Meléndez is returning with another evening of the critically acclaimed comedy show Hot Tamales Live. The show, which she produces and hosts, features an evening of comedians (usually female comedians and one male comedian). The next incarnation will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the TLC Chinese 6 Theatres in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. For more information, click here.


David Zayas, shown at left (also see above), had his role of Junior on the FX situation comedy "Saint George" bumped up from recurring to regular. For more information, read the Hollywood Reporter article by clicking here.

Cynthia Bastidas most recently performed in The Golden Drum Year. A story in poetry and prose written by Beto O'Byrne, the production had a December run at Cloud City, located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Raquel Almazán has let us know that her play El odio de un país is being produced by the New Theatre Miami One-Acts Festival-Winter 2013. Directed by Iván R. López, it is running in December at Artistic Vibes in Miami, Florida. The play, is part of her play cycle Latin is America, is dedicated to the country of Costa Rica. Joel Pérez can currently be seen in the cast of the musical Fun Home (written by Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron, based on the memoirs of Alison Bechdel). The hit musical has been extended through January 12, 2014 at The Public Theater in Manhattan's NoHo neighborhood. Directed by Sam Gold, the production also stars Michael Cerveris, Judy Kuhn, Beth Malone, Sydney Lucas, Alexandra Socha, Griffin Birney, Roberta Colindrez and Noah Hinsdale.
