Norman Lear Teases "One Day at a Time" Latino Remake

At Saturday’s Television Critics’ Association press tour in Beverly Hills, California, legendary television writer and producer Norman Lear, who was on hand to promote his PBS “American Masters” special, offered up new details on the potential remake of his sitcom “One Day at a Time,” this time with a Latino cast.

Some of the groundbreaking television series Lear has created include "All In the Family", "Archie Bunker's Place", "Maude", "Good Times", "Sanford and Son", and "The Jeffersons". He also created the cult favorite "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" and the Latino-led "a.k.a. Pablo".

"One Day at a Time" ran on CBS from 1975 to 1984, and dealt with a divorcée raising her two daughters by herself and their helpful (sometimes meddlesome) building superintendent.

Lear opined on the potential Latino-led "One Day at a Time" reboot, “I just love the idea because I don’t see enough of that representation on the air in any place. I don’t mean to say it doesn’t exist — I don’t see it any place. There isn’t enough of it, and I think it’s a rich idea.”
