Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface. To see what other HOLA members are doing currently, click here.
Luis Salgado, shown at right, was the profile of an article in the Puerto Rican daily newspaper El Vocero, where he talked about his role in the upcoming musical On Your Feet!: The Story of Gloria & Emilio Estefan, written by 2015 HOLA Awards honoree Alexander Dinelaris with music by Gloria and Emilio Estefan. The musical will be directed by Jerry Mitchell, choreographed by Sergio Trujillo and open in October 2015 at Broadway's Marquis Theatre. To read the article, which is in Spanish, click here.
Francisco Fuertes is co-starring in and co-produced the short film Tú. Yo. Baño. Sexo. Ahora. (You. Me. Bathroom. Sex. Now.) Written and directed by Francisco Lupini Basagoiti, the film has been hitting the film festival hard, winning several awards along the way. Its next stop will be at the 30Under30 Film Festival, which will take place in September in New York City. For more information, click here or here.
Elaine Del Valle, shown at left, was highlighted in an article in the Puerto Rican entertainment magazine Índice, where her role as a co-producer the popular interactive webseries "Gran'pa Knows Best" was mentioned. Del Valle negotiated an acquisition deal with HBO Latino for the series (in a first of its kind deal for interstitial programming). Created, co-produced, directed, shot and edited by William D. Caballero and based on his award-winning short film How You Doin', Boy? Voicemails From Gran'pa, its star is Caballero's own grandfather Víctor Muriel (who voices the title character, itself a 3D model of Muriel). To read the article, which is in Spanish, click here.
Joseph Meléndez is starring in the feature film Akron (written by Brian O'Donnell and directed by Sasha King and O'Donnell). The film is hitting the film festival circuit hard between September and November 2015, having its world premiere at the Cincinnati Film Festival (in Cincinnati, Ohio), and making stops at six other film festivals (as of this writing). The future film festivals are the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (in Tampa, Florida), Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival (in Seattle, Washington), ImageOUT: The Rochester LGBT Film & Video Festival (in Rochester, New York), MiFo: Miami-Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (in Miami, Florida), Kansas International Film Festival (in Overland Park, Kansas), and, bringing it full circle, back to Cincinnati, Ohio for the OutReels Cincinnati Film Festival.
