2015 HOLA Awards Announcement Ceremony

Andrea Navedo was profiled in Miami Living Magazine, where she was interviewed about her life and career, most specifically about her award-nominated role as Xiomara Villanueva in the critically acclaimed, hit television series "Jane The Virgin" (The CW). Joel Luna is directing the music video for the song "Me la llevé" performed by hip hop en español artist Nove.

Luis Salgado and Gabriela García will be performing at the Broadway Meets Wall Street event. An event co-produced by R.Evolución Latina and the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce (Northeast Chapter), the part-performance, part-workshop, part-performance will take place on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Taj, located in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. Jay Álvarez is continuing the run of his self-written, award-winning solo show Be Careful! The Sharks Will Eat You! Directed by Theresa Gambacorta, the show will have additional performances in July at the Stage Left Studio, located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. For more information, click here.

Carlo Lorenzo García acted in the film short Anthropology Anthology 1: Pilgrim (the first in an anthology series by Soft Cage Films of film shorts written by Heather Mingo and John Sutton and directed by David A. Holcombe).

Andrea Navedo, shown at right, was nominated for an Imagen Award from the Imagen Foundation, in the category of Best Supporting Actress – Television for her role as Xiomara Villanueva on The CW's hit television series "Jane The Virgin" (which itself earned six nominations, including nods for co-stars Gina Rodríguez, Jaime Camil, Ivonne Coll, and Justin Baldoni, as well as a nomination for Best Primetime Television Program - Comedy). The awards will be presented on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center in Los Angeles, California. Also nominated for an Imagen Award was the webseries "Under Covers", in the category of Best Web Series: Comedy. The webseries, from Arrow and Key Productions, was created by Carlo Lorenzo García, shown at left, who produces, co-writes and stars (as Detective Jimmy Cortez) in it. For more information (and to see the list of nominees), click here. In addition, he stars in the film We Had This Band (written and directed by Andy Steadman, who also stars). 

Paul Mauriello booked a role in the feature film Mommy's Box (written by Johnny Greenlaw and Caitlin Scherer and directed by Greenlaw).

Natalia Ivana Escobar and Jesica Levi are starring in ActSense: Ladies First. A series of one-act plays written by John Ladd, Jason Nunes, Jeanne Chenault Porter, Johnny Culver, Matt Sanders, and Michael Andrews, they are directed by Eric Leeb, Elizabeth Claflin, and Culver, respectively, and will take place in July at The Bridge Theater in Shetler Studios, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. Mónica Delgado is performing with the Colombian folkloric dance group Pajarillo Pinta'o at the 2015 FolkColombia in the Park event, scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon, August 1, 2015 at the Queens Museum in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Rosie Pérez To Leave Hosting Duties at ABC's "The View" After One Season

Academy Award-nominated (and HOLA Award-winning) actress, producer and activist Rosie Pérez has announced that she will depart as host the ABC morning talk show "The View" at the end of this season (her first and now only season on the show), leaving (as of this writing) Whoopi Goldberg, Nicolle Wallace, and newly-minted hosts Raven-Symoné and Michelle Collins as the hosts on the program. 

Pérez was the first permanent Latina host in the 18-year history of the program. She is planning to pursue her acting career full time. Her last day on the show will be Thursday, August 6, 2015. She can currently be seen on Broadway in Larry David's debut play Fish in the Dark.

Sebastian Stimman, shown at right, was featured in Broadway World, where the production he is acting in, Julián & Romero, is profiled. Written and directed by Alex Pérez, the play also stars Edna Lee Figueroa, and will be presented at the Flamboyán Theater at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood in August as part of the New York International Fringe Festival (fringeNYC). Joel Pérez acted in the film short Strange Past (written by Maggie Lehrman and directed by Kyle Gilman).

The Francisco Lupini Basagoiti short film Tú. Yo. Baño. Sexo. Ahora. (starring Francisco Fuertes and Mauricio Pita) continues its journey on the film festival circuit, with a stop at the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (LIGLFF), scheduled to take place in July in Huntington, New York. David Zayas, shown at left, is currently filming the feature film Tallulah. Written and directed by Sian Heder, the film stars Uzo Aduba, Ellen Page, Zachary Quinto and Allison Janney, and is scheduled for release sometime in 2016.

Danny Mendoza directed all of Season 1 of "El Maestro Unplugged", an unscripted series from Telemundo about up-and-coming musicians (Domino Saints, Cristal Marie and Cristian Daniel) being mentored by an established musician (Luis Enrique). For more information, click here or here, or see the first webisode below (note that the webseries is in Spanish with English subtitles).

Robert Almonte, shown at right, was featured in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog (written by Héctor Luis Rivera), where his co-starring in the sketch comedy show "Locos y Contentos" (Estrella TV) was mentioned. Almonte has a few film projects in various forms of production. They include See You Soon (written by Danilo Arroyo, Jensson Cruz and Eddy Jiménez and directed by Arroyo), which also stars Kiki Meléndez (see below) and Ayanery Reyes; Un delincuente en Nueva York (written and directed by Rafael Marín), which also stars Meléndez; and Dos Adios (written and directed by Víctor Yanik). Plinio Villablanca, shown at left, booked a role in the Columbia University thesis film El corte mejor (written and directed by Frank Graziano) due to an e-mail announcement he received from HOLA with the casting notice in it, whereupon he self-submitted.

Kiki Meléndez (see above) wrote an article entitled "Raising Kick Ass Kids" in the August 2015 issue of Latina magazine.

Juan Carlos Díaz is acting in the Sam Graber play Driving Herd. Directed by Vincent Scott, the two-hander will be presented as part of the Piney Fork Press Play Festival taking place in July at the New York Public Library Alvin Ailey Auditorium located in the Manhattanville/West Harlem area of Manhattan. Edna Lee Figueroa booked a role in the television series "Mad Dogs" (Amazon), which stars Michael Imperioli, Billy Zane, Steve Zahn, and Ben Chaplin.

Alberto Bonilla booked a role in Youth in Oregon (written by Andrew Eisen and directed by Joel David Moore). The film stars Christina Applegate, Billy Crudup and Frank Langella.
