HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Edna Lee Figueroa and Edmi De Jesús were featured in the Time Out New York magazine, where the show in which they star, Máscaras afuera (written by Joselo Arroyo and directed by Gerardo Gudiño), was declared a pick of the week. The production is being presented in May as part of the FuerzaFest (produced by the Hispanic Federation) at the Julia De Burgos Performance and Arts Center in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood. Susanna Guzmán is co-starring in the Karen Hartman play Project Dawn. Directed by Abigail Adams, the play is taking place in June and July at the People's Light Theater in Malverne, Pennsylvania. For more information, click here.

Edison Carrera, shown at left, directed the Dinorah Coronado play Secretos de mujer. Produced by Teatro Tocando Puertas, it was presented in May at the Iglesia San George in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens. In addition, he was honored in April with an award (shown at right) by the organization Guayaquil Independiente for his work and accomplishments as an actor.

Billy Martin Mejía has joined the cast (for select performances) of En el nombre de Salomé. Adapted for the stage from the Julia Álvarez novel by Marco Antonio Rodríguez, the play is directed by José Zayas and also star Jerry Soto, Johary Ramos, and Jesús E. Martínez. It is currently running at Repertorio's namesake theater located in the Rose Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. For more information, click here.

Indra Palomo has joined the cast of En el tiempo de las mariposas. Adapted for the stage from the Julia Álvarez novel by Caridad Svich, the play is directed by José Zayas and is currently running at Repertorio's namesake theater located in the Rose Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. Ángel Gil Orrios created, produced, designed and directed TANGOmenaje: La cumparsita- 100 years/100 años. A celebration of the centennial of the very popular tango by Gerardo Hernán "Becho" Matos Rodríguez, the production features music arranged and directed by bandoneón master and Latin Grammy winner Raúl Jaurena. The show will take place in May and June at the Thalía Spanish Theatre, located in the Sunnyside area of Queens. For more information, click here.
