HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. 2015 HOLA Awards recipient Idalmis García, shown at right, is starring in the one-act play 50 Love Letters. Written by Mercilee Jenkins and directed by Mónica Palmieri, the play is being presented in September as part of Fall One-Act Play Competition 2015 by and at the Manhattan Repertory Company, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan.

Manuel A. Morán and Teatro SEA is hosting the puppet theater troupe Teatro de las Estaciones (direct from Matanzas, Cuba) as it presents El patico feo, based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale of The Ugly Duckling. It will be presented at Teatro SEA's namesake theater in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA), located in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. Ángel Dillemuth, shown at left, booked a co-starring role on "Power" (Starz).

Francisco Fuertes is co-starring in and co-produced the short film Tú. Yo. Baño. Sexo. Ahora. (You. Me. Bathroom. Sex. Now.) Written and directed by Francisco Lupini Basagoiti, the film has been hitting the international film festival circuit hard, winning several awards along the way. Its next stop will be in September in the Great White North as part of the closing ceremonies of the CaribbeanTales International Film Festival, taking place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Ángelo Mercado, Jr., shown at right, booked a commercials for a weight loss product and the "I Love NY" campaign.

Billy Martin Mejía and his theater company Otro Teatro NY were selected by El Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en los Estados Unidos as the winning group to mount a production of Haffe Serulle's play La danza de Mingó. Based on the life of Dominican activist Florinda Muñoz Soriano (also known as Mamá Tingó), the play will be directed by Mejía (with assistant direction from Arturo López) and premiere in September (with a later run in November) at El Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. The production will star Angie Regina, Francis Mateo and Maité Bonilla.
