HOLA Member Bochinche


Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Ana Grosse, shown at right in character, just wrapped up playing Belén in the world premiere of Martín Zimmerman play Seven Spots on the Sun (directed by KJ Sánchez), which ran in September and October at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ayanery Reyes is currently filming the film South Side of Heaven (written and directed by Adam Gómez) in Tucson, Arizona.

Gladys K. Nilsen performed cabaret at the famed Don't Tell Mama, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. She will follow this with a stint at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The short film The Poker Lesson took first place at the sixth annual NoHu International Short Film Festival. The film was directed by Louis Pappas and executive produced by Natasha Senko, Jim Thalman and Arian Blanco (shown at left, from left to right). The film festival, named for the (North) Hudson County in New Jersey, took place at the William V. Musto Cultural Center, located in Union City, New Jersey.

Teatro SEA and Manuel A. Morán is presenting the eighth annual Borimix Festival. The festival, a celebration of Puerto Rican arts and culture takes place in November (Puerto Rican Heritage Month). Events will take place at Teatro SEA, located in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood (unless where noted elsewhere) and include the following theater productions. La cucarachita Martina/Martina, The Little Roach. Based on the Pura Belpré short story (itself adapted from Cuban and Puerto Rican folktales), this bilingual family production by Teatro SEA is directed by Morán and features Indra Palomo and 2013 HOLA Awards recipient Jesús E. Martínez (see below) in the cast. In addition to performing at SEA, this production will have a special performance at the Hostos Center for Arts and Culture, located in the Mott Haven area of the South Bronx.

Rafael Hernández... Romance. Featuring the music of the famed Puerto Rican composer Rafael Hernández, the musical revue is presented by SEA, directed by Morán and starring Morán and Jeannie Sol.

Growing Up González. This HOLA Award-winning solo show is being presented by SEA and TTO Entertainment, written by Félix Rojas, directed by José A. Esquea and starring Andrés Chulisi Rodríguez.

Aloha Boricua. Adapted and directed by Jorge B. Merced from a work by Manuel Ramos Otero, this concert version of the musical (music by Desmar Guevara) features Flaco Navaja and Omar Pérez (see below) in the cast. This production will be presented by Pregones Theater at its namesake theater
in the Mott Haven area of the South Bronx.

The Harlem Hellfighters on a Latin Beat. Adapted and directed by Rosalba Rolón from a work by Noble Lee Sissle,
this concert version of the musical (music by Desmar Guevara) features Danny Rivera, 2013 HOLA Award recipient Jesus E. Martínez (see above) and Omar Pérez (see above) in the cast. This production will be presented by Pregones Theater at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan.
