HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface. To see what other HOLA members are doing currently, click here.

Manuel A. Morán, shown at right, was featured in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog (written and edited by Héctor Luis Rivera), as a result of him winning the 2017 New York Latin ACE Film Award in the category of Best Documentary. He shares the award with Kristian Otero for co-directing Títeres en el Caribe hispano: Cuba, República Dominicana, Puerto Rico. This marks Morán's third ACE Award this year, as he won two 2017 ACE Theater Awards in the category of Outstanding Performance in a Children's Play and Best Director of a Children's Play for Teatro SEA's production of El encuentro de Juan Bobo y Pedro Animal/The Encounter of Juan Bobo and Pedro Animal. The playwrights consist of William Beasley, Carlos Jerome, John Esposito, Sandy Lofaso, James Peele, Elena Rodríguez, and Allan Yashin; the other directors are Beasley, Wilemina Olivia-García and Mónica Palmieri. Among the ten actors in the cast is Patrick Michael Valley. The production will be presented on Saturday afternoon, February 25, 2017 at the Hamilton Fish Branch Library in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood.

Mildred Ruiz-Sapp, shown at left, along with Steven Sapp and William "Ninja" Ruiz, collectively known as the performance group Universes, wrote the new musical UniSon. Inspired by the poetry of August Wilson, the piece was developed and directed by Robert O'Hara and will have its world premiere at the Angus Bowmer Theater at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) in Ashland, Oregon, where it will run from April through October.
