HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface. To see what other HOLA members are doing currently, click here.

A.B. Lugo, shown at right, was interviewed and profiled in an article in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog (written by Héctor Luis Rivera, also see below), where he talked of recent gigs playing one of the Magi for two separate Three Kings Day events and his upcoming role as Orlando in the William Shakespeare play As You Like It. Directed by José A. Esquea (also mentioned in the article), the play will run in January at the Flamboyán Theater at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. To read the interview, which is in Spanish, click here.

Manuel A. Moránshown at left, was mentioned in both the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog (written by Héctor Luis Rivera, also see above and below) and the Arte NY blog (written by J. Edgar Mozoub), due to his participation in the award-winning production of La Gloria: A Latin Cabaret. Written by Norge Espinosa and produced and directed by Morán, the evening honors the music of Cuba's La Sonora Matancera, and its three singers: Celia Cruz, Myrta Silva, and Daniel Santos. The production stars Jeannie Sol, Morán and Milteri Tucker, and will have additional performances (due to popular demand) in January and February at Teatro SEA's eponymous theater, located in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. This production is a collaboration with Cuba's internationally acclaimed puppet theater troupe, Teatro de Las Estaciones. To read the blogs (which are in Spanish and English, respectively), click here and here.

Héctor Luis Rivera (also see above and below) and Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos (TEBA) has announced that it has plans to produce Franklin Domínguez's Lisistrata odia la política (based on the Aristophanes comedy Lysistrata), to be directed by Rivera and scheduled to premiere in early 2016 at the Broadway Blackbox Theater (located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood).

Edna Lee Figueroa was interviewed by Héctor Luis Rivera (also see above), in the second webisode of the third season of the internet talk show "Héctor Luis Sin Censura", where she spoke of her life and career as an actress. To see the webisode (which is 99% in Spanish), click on the video (note: very slight adult language).
