HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Manuel A. Morán, shown at right and also see below, was mentioned in El Blog de Pablo (written by Pablo García Gámez), due to his participation in the production of La Gloria: A Latin Cabaret. Written by Norge Espinosa and produced and directed by Morán, the evening honors the music of Cuba's La Sonora Matancera, and its three singers: Celia Cruz, Myrta Silva, and Daniel Santos. The production stars Jeannie Sol (also see below), Morán and Milteri Tucker, and will have additional performances (due to popular demand) in January and February at Teatro SEA's eponymous theater, located in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. This production is a collaboration with Cuba's internationally acclaimed puppet theater troupe, Teatro de Las Estaciones. For more information about the production, click here.

Anthony Ruiz stars in the film short Hasta mañana. Written and directed by Pedro Bermúdez, it was shot in Connecticut and also starred Susanna Guzmán. The film recently had its world premiere at Real Art Ways in Hartford, Connecticut, and will be soon be hitting the film festival circuit.

Otro Teatro NY and El Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en EEUU are presenting Haffe Serulle's La danza de Mingó. Directed by Billy Martin Mejía, the play is based on the life of Dominican activist Florinda Muñoz Soriano (also known as Mamá Tingó), and star Angie Regina, Francis Mateo and Maité Bonilla. The production will run in January at the Teatro Rafael Villalona, located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. 

The Asociación de Cronistas de Espectáculos de Nueva York (ACE) announced the winners for the 48th annual Latin ACE Awards. Among the nominees in the various theater categories were a plethora of HOLA members. They are Martha Alzate, Iván L. Argudo, Edward Azcorra, Ricardo Barber, Luis Carlos de La Lombana, Caridad del Valle, Ángel Gil Orrios, Gerardo Gudiño, Alicia Kaplan, Soledad López, Ana Margarita Martínez-Casado, Manuel A. Morán (also see above), Héctor Luis Rivera, Jeannie Sol (also see above), and Maite Uzal. The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Mexican Festival restaurant (a new date and time than previously announced), located in Manhattan's Upper West Side.
