HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Vladimir Ríos, shown at left, was featured in the November 2015 issue of A&U magazine (with Jonathan Groff on the cover), where he was profiled for his collaboration with photographer Lester Blum on two photo series: Warrior of Hope and I Still Remember, respectively. Both are narratives taken by Blum featuring Ríos (who also served as artistic director) as the main or lead character. Both photo series have been published as photo books and are hitting the art gallery circuit, with Warrior of Hope opening at the Brad Brafford LGBT Center in Santa Ana, California, and I Still Remember opening at the Staten Island LGBT Community Center in the Tompkinsville section of Staten Island. Milteri Tucker along with her company, Bombazo Dance, performed in New York's City Hall for New York City Mayor Bill DiBlasio, New York City Council President Melissa Mark-Viverito, radio and music personality Angie Martínez, and many other luminaries for the opening ceremony of the city's Puerto Rican Heritage Month. Judy Torres will be singing her hits at the Freestyle Friday 2015 event happening at Salsa Con Fuego located in the Fordham section of the Bronx. Taking place on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, the event will also double as the official birthday party for famed producer Sal Abbatiello. For more information, click here.

2015 HOLA Awards recipient Héctor Luis Rivera and Kathy Tejada were featured in the weekly New York City newspaper La Voz Hispana, where their work in Amores jíbaros, a double bill of plays by Myrna Lluch (Un jíbaro con melao and Siña Cocó la hechicera), was highlighted. The evening of short plays were directed by Rivera and starred Tejada. The production was presented by Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos (TEBA) as part of the En Un Acto Theater & Film Festival (also produced by TEBA), where it took place at the Broadway Blackbox Theater, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. The production also stars Kevin Pérez, Amado Marte, Edú, and Erika Reyes. To read the article, which is in Spanish, click at the image at left.

David Ponce, shown at right, was featured in the daily Southeast Florida newspaper El Nuevo Herald, where his acting in the Havanafama production of Virgilio Piñera's Dos viejos pánicos, was highlighted. Directed by Juan Roca, the play also stars Vivian Morales, and will be presented in November at the Artefactus Teatro in Miami, Florida. The Village Light Opera, in conjunction with Raphael Benavides, will present Company. Written by Stephen Sondheim (lyrics and music) and George Furth (book), the musical is directed by Brendan Stackhouse with musical direction by James Higgins. The production will run in November at the Poet's Den Theater, located in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood. For more information, click here.
