HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface. To see what other HOLA members are doing currently, click here.

Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja), shown at right, was the recipient of the 2013 Poe Award of Literary and Artistic Excellence. Named after writer (and Bronx resident) Edgar Allan Poe, the award was bestowed upon her by the Bronx Historical Society and presented to her on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the historic Valentine-Varian House (built in 1758) in the Norwood section of the Bronx. She is following that up with a performance at the finale of the Young Roots Performance Series on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Longwood @ Hostos Art Gallery in the Mott Haven are of the South Bronx. Thousands of nominees were whittled down to just three per MLB team (Cortés is recognized as one of the heroes of the New York Yankees). The winner representing each team will be recognized at the 2013 MLB All-Star Game (to be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in New York) and one person will be featured in People magazine.
