Sunny Hostin (@sunny)
Known to many nationally on ABC’s The View. She returned to ABC News as a senior legal correspondent and analyst in February 2016. From 2007 to 2016, Hostin was a host and legal analyst at CNN. Prior to working at CNN, Hostin filled in as co-anchor for ABC News’ World News Now and America This Morning. Hostin began her legal career as an appellate law clerk, trial attorney for the Justice Department and lastly a federal prosecutor. Hostin graduated from Binghamton University and Notre Dame Law School. Christina Lazaridi
Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, this Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and screenwriting consultant has won prizes ranging from the Berlin Film Festival to the Tribeca Film Festival with the film she co-wrote with Julia Solomonoff, Nadie Nos Mira (Nobody’s Watching). Her Greek film, Roza of Smyrna, was a box office hit in 2016 and 2017. She is lauded in the Latino community as one of the founders and a core mentor at the Mexico-based international script development lab, Cine Qua Non Lab (CQNL) where she has developed scripts for acclaimed films. She has taught screenwriting at the Film Graduate School at Columbia University and is a screenwriting professor at Princeton University.

Julia Solomonoff
A New York-based filmmaker from Rosario, Argentina she is the Director and Co-writer of the feature film, Nadie Nos Mira (Nobody’s Watching) that won at the Tribeca Film Festival 2017 the Best Actor Award in the international competition with Guillermo Pfening. Her films have premiered from the Toronto Film Festival to San Sebastian. She has directed a 13-part documentary series for television and her short films have received awards from DGA and a regional Academy Award nomination. Lorraine Vélez
Accomplished singer, actor and dancer who performed in theatrical productions from West Side Story to Dreamgirls. She has graced London’s West End playing in Miss Saigon to Mama I Want To Sing, before starring as Carmen in the original production of Fame. She then played Mimi in Rent, which she took to Broadway. She played in the re-creation of Porgy and Bess at the Savoy Theatre, London. Lorraine starred in the musical about the Life of Roberto Clemente, DC7, a/k/a Clemente: The Legend of 21. Louis Perego Moreno (@TioLouie)
Founder & Executive Producer of PRIME LATINO MEDIA, the largest network on the East Coast of Latino multimedia-makers, actors and musicians in bilingual Latino and mainstream media, digital and entertainment. He hosts PRIME LATINO MEDIA Salón, metropolitan New York's only monthly network gathering in which over 100 narrative & documentary filmmakers, programmers, casting agents, TV & digital media producers, actors and journalist/authors have been interviewed. A Social Impact Producer and Educator who for the past 35 years has owned Skyline Features, a bilingual (English and Spanish-language) multimedia and educational production company developing documentaries, television programming and advertising commercials featuring Latinos, Blacks, Women, Urban Youth and LGBT. Created a non-profit video training program that over the course of ten years produced 70 documentary shorts with 1,500 Latino and Black Youth. Producer-Director-Writer of documentary feature, Latina Confessions (What does it mean to be Latina in the USA?) and on the PBS documentary feature as Co-producer of American Dreams Deferred, about a Puerto Rican family and their son’s journey graduating from NYU with a Master’s degree. For 13 years he served on a national level and for two years he was the President of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers in New York (NALIP). He has been serving for 20 years on the Board of Advisors for the Center for Latino Arts & Culture at Rutgers University.

Adriana Sananes, shown at right, and Kate Del Castillo star in "Celestial Blood" and "Sangre celestial",  a podcast of a radionovela (done in English and Spanish), produced by KCRW in Los Angeles, California. The radionovela, with eight episodes each, are written by Mariana Carreño King and Inda Craig-Galván and directed by Gisele Regatao. Alicia Kaplan was featured in an article in the New York weekly newspaper Impacto Latin News where she was one of three women honored by the Latin American Cultural Center of Queens with the Concepción Arenal Ponte Award to commemorate Women's History Month. She was honored on account of her work as an actress-writer-director-producer. The event took place in March at P.S. 222Q in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens. Pablo García Gámez and A.B. Lugoshown left to right in image at right, were featured in El Blog de Pablo, as a result of the former's two-hander La vieja heridabeing directed by the latter, to be presented as part of the FuerzaFest Latino LGBTQ+Festival (presented by the Hispanic Federation). The play, produced by Álex Vásquez Escaño of Teátrica (and featuring assistant direction by Laura Petit), stars Fabián González and Miguel Flores and will take place in May at the Julia de Burgos Cultural Center in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood. Lucio Fernández, shown at right, was featured in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog (written and edited by Héctor Luis Rivera) where he was highlighted for his upcoming performance as one of the performers with the Latin music band Máxima Alerta on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the world famous S.O.B.'s, located in Manhattan's West Village. Rubén Santiago-Hudson and Alex Lacamoire Pick Up 2017 Tony Award Nominations

This year's Tony Awards nominations were announced this morning by Jane Krakowski and Christopher JacksonThe Antoinette Perry (Tony) Award for Excellence in Theatre, more commonly known informally as the Tony Award, recognizes achievement in live Broadway theatre. The awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at an annual ceremony in New York City. The awards are given for Broadway productions and performances, and an award is given for regional theatre.

Rubén Santiago-Hudson picked up his first nomination as a director for his work helming August Wilson's Jitney (he previously won a Tony for acting in Wilson's play Seven Guitars). Alex Lacamoire earned another nod in Orchestrations for his work on the Pasek and Paul musical Dear Evan Hansen (he has previously won two Tony Awards for his work orchestrating the Miranda-Hudes musical In The Heights and Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton).

In addition to Santiago-Hudson and Lacamoire, Latinos who have won Tony Awards include José Ferrer, Gabriel Gutiérrez, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, former HOLA honoree Priscilla López, Lin-Manuel Mirandaformer HOLA honoree Rita Morenoformer HOLA honoree Sara Ramírez, and Chita Rivera, among others.

WGA Details Gains After Post-Deadline Accord With AMPTP Averts Strike

A threatened writers strike was averted early this morning when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and management’s Alliance Of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP) reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year film and TV contract after the old contract had expired at midnight Pacific Time.

The deal now goes to the WGA West’s board and the WGA East’s council for approval, and then to the guilds’ members for ratification.

Rosie Berrido's debut film, Friendship, is the recipient of LOLA Honorable Mention Award, to be presented by the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival in June 2017. The short film, written and directed by Berrido, stars Teresa Yenque, Mateo Gómez, and Berrido (shown counterclockwise from top in the movie poster image at right), and is currently hitting the film festival circuit. 

Edmi De Jesús and Gerardo Gudiño, shown left to right, in the image at left, were featured in the Héctor Luis Sin Censura blog (written and edited by Héctor Luis Rivera, also see below), as a result of their much touted collaboration as performer and director, respectively, in the Tere Martínez solo show Mi última noche con Rubén Blades, which was recently featured in The ONE Festival, which took place in April at Teatro Círculo, located in Manhattan's East Village. Zahaira Curiel will be performing in the musical improv show Mom's in Town. The performance will take place on Monday, May 1, 2017 at The People's Improv Theater (The P.I.T.)'s The Striker space, located in Manhattan's Rose Hill district. Elaine Del Valle, shown at left, wrote, directed, produced and stars in the short film Final Decision. Also starring Berto Colón and Elyn Jaime Jenkins, the film is headed for the film festival circuit, with its next stop being in June at the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

Lucio Fernández and Asier Kintana co-star in the upcoming film El Cóndor en New York. Written and directed by Alejandro Nieto-Polo, the film, a sequel to the writer-director's 2016 film Súper Cóndor, is currently in production.
