HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface.


Otro Teatro’s production of Frágil (written by César Brié) won three awards, including Best Production at the Third Annual Theater Festival of the Comisionado Dominicano en los Estados Unidos. The production also won for Best Director (Billy Martín Mejía, shown above left; also see below) and Best Actress (Sandy Hernández, shown above right). The production also stars Angie Regina and Miguel Maldonado. Also at the festival, the production of El deseo de Sofía (conceived and helmed by Ernesto De Villa Bejjani, shown at left) won second place production honors.

Éric Dominique Pérez, shown at right, was highlighted in the off-off-Broadway section of BroadwayWorld for his self-penned solo show El Gringuito (directed by A.B. Lugo and assistant directed by Billy Martín Mejía, see above), which will be presented in March at the Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF). To read the article, click here.

Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja) served as mistress of ceremonies for the Voices UnBroken/Hearing Our Voices benefit. Abraham Makany acted in a late-night version of the popular Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. Dubbed The Shakes: Romeo and Juliet, it was directed by Kel Haney and Liz Carlson and presented in January and February by The Bats at the Flea Theater, located in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood. Antonio Miniño and Mario Bósquez will be returning for another season of two plays which will run in repertory: All About Meat (The Garcías) and Confessions of a Cuban Sex Addict (both written and directed by Michelangelo Alasá). The productions will take place at the Duo Multicultural Arts Center, located in Manhattan’s East Village. For more information, click here.

Judy Torres will be singing her hit songs on March 30, 2013 at world famous Radio City Music Hall as part of the Freestyle & Old School music event. She will share the bill with many artists including Shannon, Lisa Lisa, TKA, Rob Base, Sugar Hill, Biz Markie, Soul Sonic Force, Slick Rick, Cynthia, Cover Girls, Lissette Mélendez, Nayobe, Noel and Soave.
