HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting and performance gigs. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface.

Mariana Parma
will be one of the featured dancers in the PAMAR presentation of Glamour Tango. Directed by Polly Ferman, the production (dubbed "tango in feminine form") will be performed on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the New York Society for Ethical Culture (located near Manhattan's Columbus Circle) as part of the seventh annual Latin American Cultural Week NYC. Mafer Rodríguez, Yunior A. Ventura and Pedro Vargas are acting in Después de los 40. Written and directed by Ventura and produced by Teatro Tempo as part of the third annual Festival de Teatro Hispano del Comisionado Dominicano de la Cultura en los Estados Unidos at its namesake space in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.



Julissa Román and Teresa Yenque, shown above from left to right, were featured in Broadway World for the production of Catherine Filloux's Luz, in which they both acted. Adriana Sananes and Walter Krochmal will act in Cabaret Emigré. Written by Sophia Romma and directed by Charles Weldon (with music by Lev Zhurbin), the Negro Ensemble Company production will have a November run at The Lion Theater in Theater Row in the theater district of midtown Manhattan.


The feature film Elliot Loves (written and directed by G. Terracino) continues its run of the film festival circuit in anticipation of its national theatrical release. It is slated to screen at the sixth annual Festival de Cine Global Dominicano in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with screenings between November 14, 2012 and November 21, 2012. The award-winning film was produced by Terracino and Elizabeth Gardner and co-produced by Juan Cáceres, stars Robin De Jesús, Elaine Del Valle (a 2012 HOLA Award recipient), Alfredo Narciso (a 2012 HOLA Award recipient), Cedric Leiba, George Ruiz, Dalia Davi, Monte Bezell, Judy Torres, Bobby DeJesús, Denia Brache and Fabio Costaprado in the cast. Repertorio Español will present readings of Mel Nieves' play In Da Boogie Down, Marco Antonio Rodríguez's Barceló con hielo and Eddie Zipperer's Nicolás The Worm as part of its 2012 MetLife Nuestras Voces National Playwriting Competition Reading Series. Some of the actors in the readings include Blanca Camacho, Modesto Lacén, Luis Pavón, Malena Ramírez,
Juan Villarreal and Stewart Villilo, among others. The readings will take place in November at Repertorio's namesake theater in the Rose Hill section of Manhattan. The New York Philharmonic will present "One Singular Sensation: Celebrating Marvin Hamlisch", a special New Year’s Eve concert saluting the late composer-conductor, December 31, 2012 at 7:30pm at Avery Fisher Hall. The concert will be directed by Lonny Price and telecast nationally on "Live From Lincoln Center" with host Audra McDonald on PBS stations at 8pm. For more information, click here. The songs will be conducted by Paul Gemignani and consist of repertoire from Hamlisch’s works for stage and film, including A Chorus Line and Sweet Smell of Success. The performers include Joshua Bell, Raúl Esparza (shown at right), Michael Feinstein, Maria Friedman, Josh Groban, Megan Hilty, McDonald, Kelli O'Hara and Frederica von Stade.
