HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Cedric Leiba, Jr.shown wearing the hat, center, in the photo at right, danced with Milteri Tucker, (wearing red, front and center, in the photo at rightand Bombazo Dance Company as the opening act of the Teatro SEA production of La muela del rey Farfán/The King Who Refused To Love. The production (directed by Manuel A. Morán) is taking place as part of the Arte pa' mi Gente/Arts for All Festival, running through June at La Plaza at The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. Thalía Hispanic Theatre is presenting the Juan Carlos Rubio comedy Apartment For Sale (tenant included). Produced, designed and directed by Ángel Gil Orrios, the production stars Soledad LópezJesús E. Martínez, and Basílica Bliachas and is now running through June at Thalía's namesake theater located in the Sunnyside area of Queens. For more information, click here.


Elaine Del Valleshown at left, was featured in The Huffington Post where her role as a co-producer of the popular interactive webseries "Gran'pa Knows Best" was mentioned. Created, co-produced, directed, shot and edited by William D. Caballero (shown at right, with Del Valle and "Gran'pa") and based on his award-winning short film How You Doin', Boy? Voicemails From Gran'pa, its star is Caballero's own grandfather Víctor Muriel (who voices the title character, itself a 3D model of Muriel). "Gran'pa Knows Best" (which has just premiered its second season, can be seen on HBO Go, HBO Now and HBO On Demand, and HBO Latino). To read the article, including behind-the-scenes footage, click here.

Caridad de la Luz
(also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja) appears and performs in Sketches from the Underground. The short film, directed by Lucas Machowski (and for which de la Luz receives a co-writing credit), will be screened at The Brooklyn Museum (in the Prospect Park area of Brooklyn) on Thursday, June 23, 2016 as part of the museum's Caribbean Heritage Series.
