Lin-Manuel Miranda and His Musical, HAMILTON, Win 2016 Drama League Awards

The Drama League announced the 2016 Drama League Awards winners in a ceremony on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square in Manhattan. First awarded in 1922 and formalized in 1935, the Drama League Awards are the oldest theatrical honors in America. They are the only major theatergoer awards chosen by audience members — specifically, by the thousands of Drama League members nationwide who attend Broadway and off-Broadway productions.

Hamilton won the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of an Off-Broadway or Broadway musical. In addition, its composer-lyricist-librettist-star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, won the Distinguished Performance Award (an honor only awarded once to an artist during his/her career).
