HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to "gossip." In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting and performance gigs. The names of HOLA members and Friends of HOLA are listed below in boldface.

Rhina Valentín, shown at left, has been selected as one of the recipients of Comité Noviembre's Lo Mejor de Nuestra Comunidad (The Best of Our Community) Award. Comité Noviembre recognizes outstanding individuals who are the unsung heroes of our community. These awards honor Puerto Ricans whose pride in their heritage and strength of character have empowered themselves and inspired others to make a significant impact on our community. The awards ceremony will happen on November 1, 2012 (November is Puerto Rican Heritage Month) at the headquarters of 1199 SEIU located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. Also receiving honors that day from Comité Noviembre are Antonio Aponte, Tomás del Rio, Mai Reina Gold, Lillian Lee Llambelis, Marina Ortiz, Sherlyn Ortiz, Iris Ramírez and Milteri Tucker. Also, the actor-writer-television host/producer will join April Lee Hernández, José Rivas, María Castañeda, Jacqueline B. Mondros and José Calderón will also receive an honor from VIP (Violence Intervention Program), Inc. at their annual gala (hosted by Lynda Baquero) on November 8, 2012. Marisol Carrere, shown at right, booked a role in the short film Día de los muertos/Cempasúchil (directed by Marciela Reyes) through an HOLA referral.

Jay Álvarez is presenting his self-penned solo show Be Careful! The Sharks Will Eat You (directed by Theresa Gambacorta) in November and December at Stage Left Studio Theater in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. For more information, click here.


Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja) will be hosting Women Who Run With Wolves, a night of poetry and comedy on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Bronx Music Heritage Center located in the Crotona Park area of the Bronx. She was also the subject of a profile on the web series "Cafecito" from the HOLA Award-winning network NBC Latino. Marcelino Feliciano will act in How We Are Connected/The Caribbean. Inspired by National Geographic's Genographic Project, it is produced by the New International Center of Diverse Artists (NICODA) in collaboration with El Museo Del Barrio and the Brooklyn Museum. Conceived and directed by Ari Laura Kreith and written by Jenny Lyn Bader and J. Stephen Brantley, the show will have performances in October at El Museo Del Museo (in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood) and the Brooklyn Museum (in Brooklyn's Prospect Heights neighborhood), respectively; and in November at The Theater at P.S. 69 in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens. Angie Regina and Sandy Hernández will be in the César Brié play Frágil
. Produced by Otro Teatro, the show also features Billy Martín Mejía (who also directed) and Miguel A. Maldonado, it will be presented in November at the third annual Festival de Teatro Hispano del Comisionado Dominicano de los Estados Unidos at its namesake theater space, located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.
