Luis Salgado, shown at right, was featured in Broadway World, where his role as creator and director of the R.Evolución Latina 2016 Choreographers Festival, was profiled. Titled Bountiful: A Teacher's Journey, it will feature the work of choreographers Valeria Cossu, Daniel Fetecua Soto, Gabriela García, Vania Masias, Matthew Steffens, Rebeca Tomás, Rickey Tripp, and Amanda Turner. The festival will take place in April and May at the Manhattan Movement and Art Center (MMAC) in Manhattan's West Side. Anthony Ruiz stars in the film short Hasta mañana. Written and directed by Pedro Bermúdez, the film also stars Susanna Guzmán. The film will be screened (along with Jesse Allain-Marcus & Wade Allain-Marcus' French Dirty) on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn as part of the BAMcinématek series New Voices in Black Cinema. Aileene Pérez was featured in the New York weekly newspaper La Voz Hispana, along with Iván L. Argudo, where they were both highlighted for their work acting (an all-HOLA member cast) in the José Martínez Queirolo play Q.E.P.D. (Que en paz descansen). Directed by Argudo and presented by Teatro Vanguardia USA, the play was presented in April as part of the first annual Festival de Comedias TEBA, presented by the Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos at the Broadway Blackbox Theater in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. Mario Golden and A.B. Lugo were interviewed, along with playwright Domnica Rădulescu, by Rhina Valentín on the talk show "Open" (BronxNet), where they spoke about the upcoming production Exile is My Home (in which Golden and Lugo co-star). Directed by Andreas Robertz and co-starring Vivienne Jurado, Noemí de la Puente, Nikaury Rodríguez, David van Leesten, and Mirandy Rodríguez, the play will be presented in April and May at the Theater for the New City (located in Manhattan's East Village). Lin-Manuel Miranda's HAMILTON Wins 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Drama

Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway musical phenomenon that tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, was named winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Drama.

It joins an exclusive club of just eight other musicals (Next To Normal, Rent, Sunday in the Park with George, A Chorus Line, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Fiorello!, South Pacific, Of Thee I Sing) that have won the prestigious award since it was founded nearly a century ago. In addition, the former HOLA awardee is also the third Latino to win the award (after former HOLA awardees Nilo Cruz and Quiara Alegría Hudes). The Pulitzer, which is awarded to “a distinguished play by an American author, preferably original in its source and dealing with American life,” includes a $10,000 cash prize.

Other awards that the musical has won include the Lucille Lortel Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Drama Desk Award, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, the Obie Award, the Dramatists Guild of America Award, the Grammy Award (for its cast recording) and the Edward M. Kennedy Award.

Soraya Padrao, shown at right, is co-starring in An Invisible Part of the World. Written by Juan Diego Botto and directed by Ignacio García Bustelo, the AENY - Spanish Artists in New York/IATI Theater production will run in April and May at IATI Theater, located in Manhattan's East Village. Mariana Parma is co-starring in the pilot "The Last Hand". The pilot, written by Paula Pizzi and Ed Trucco, directed by Trucco and assistant directed by Anthony Ruiz, stars Pizzi, Nelson Landrieu, Carolina Ravassa, Iván Camilo, and John J. Concado.

Judy Torres will be singing her freestyle dance music hits at the Coney Island Freestyle Funhouse event. It will take place on Saturday afternoon, September 3, 2016 at the all new amphitheater at the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn. The end of summer concert will also include performances by TKA, George LaMond, Biz Markie, The Cover Girls, Coro, Sugar Hill Gang, Brenda K. Starr, and Noel, among others. Mônica Steuer, shown at right, is co-starring in the Boundless Theatre Company production of Prospect. Written by Octavio Solís and directed by Elena Araoz, the show will make its New York premiere in May and run through June at Teatro Círculo, located in Manhattan's East Village. It's 2016 and Latino Representation on TV Is Finally Starting to Reflect Reality

SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors Approves New Commercials Contracts

The SAG-AFTRA National Board, meeting this weekend in Los Angeles at SAG-AFTRA Plaza, unanimously approved the recently negotiated commercials contracts and took action on several items including the previously reported historic election of Gabrielle Carteris as president, to fulfill the term of the late Ken Howard, and Rebecca Damon as executive vice president. 

The national board unanimously approved the deal reached with the ad industry April 3, 2016 on new television, audio and digital commercials contracts. The details of the agreement are forthcoming and will be submitted to the membership for ratification.

Formal negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the advertising industry began on February 17, 2016 and concluded April 3, 2016.

SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said, "This contract speaks to the livelihood of members today – and in the future. We look forward to presenting the agreement to the membership for ratification." 

SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator David White said, “I congratulate the board on the approval of this agreement. Our negotiating committee, led by President Carteris and Co-Chair Sue-Anne Morrow, faced very tough issues and, working together, secured an excellent and forward-looking deal for our membership.” 

SAG-AFTRA was represented by SAG-AFTRA President and Negotiating Committee Co-Chair Gabrielle Carteris, Co-Chair Sue-Anne Morrow, Chief Negotiator David White, Co-Lead Negotiators Ray Rodríguez and Mathis Dunn and Senior Advisor John McGuire. 

The meeting began with an in memoriam for those SAG-AFTRA members and staff who passed away since the last national board meeting. Board members shared stories and reflections about the late President Ken Howard and former Screen Actors Guild President Anna Patty Duke Pearce.

Kathy Tejada was featured in the Entreactos y Telones column of the weekly New York newspaper La Voz Hispana, as a result of her acting in the Cristián Cortez Galecio play Maduritas, macrobióticas, y multiorgásmicas. Directed by Franco Galecio and produced by Teatro Fragal, the production is part of the first annual Festival de Comedias TEBA, produced by the Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos and Héctor Luis Rivera. The festival will take place during roughly over more than two weeks in April at the Broadway Blackbox Theater in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. Also featured in the article are other HOLA members in the festival including Iván L. Argudo, Edison Carrera, Natalia Ivana Escobar, Edna Lee Figueroa, Barby Ganesh, Sandor Juan and Aileene Pérez. Erick Betancourt, shown at left, is acting in the Houses on the Moon double bill production gUN COUNTRY [sic] and The Assignment. Based on stories by Brenda Currin, Ian Eaton, Cristina and Ray Hernández and Jenna Worsham, the former is a "theatrical exploration of firearms in America" is curated and directed by Jeffrey Solomon and Emily Weiner. The latter is a workshop of a play by Camilo Almonacid and directed by Weiner. The double bill will take place in April at the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture, located in the Mott Haven area of the South Bronx. For more information, click here.

Patrick Michael Valley acted in the SVA thesis film Porte Ouverte (written and directed by Andrew Keyser). The film is currently in production in New York City.

Susan Rybin will be performing in Kahlo. An adaptation of the Humberto Robles monologue Frida: Viva la vida, the solo show is being brought back due to popular demand and is directed by Walter Ventosilla.
